DC is taking a different approach with its latest film, Clayface, bringing one of Batman’s best-known villains to the screen in a gruesome body horror story. Directed by James Watkins, with a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, the film stars Tom Rhys Harries as a young actor whose promising Hollywood career takes a horrifying turn. I recently attended a screening of Clayface in London, and while I knew this wasn’t going to be your typical DC film, I was still surprised by just how far it goes with the horror.

The story follows Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries), an actor who has managed to leave behind his difficult upbringing in Gotham and build a successful Hollywood career. With an Oscar nomination under his belt and a promising future ahead, things are finally looking good for Matt, until an encounter with a woman connected to notorious gangster Markos Szabo (David Dencik) changes everything. A brutal attack leaves his face badly disfigured, and with his career and personal life falling apart, Matt becomes desperate to find a way back to the life he once had.

Matt turns to scientist Dr Caitlyn Corr (Naomi Ackie), who has been working on an experimental treatment that could restore his face. At first, it appears to work, giving Matt the chance to get his old life back, but the treatment soon starts causing some pretty horrific side effects and he begins losing control of what is happening to his body. As his condition gets worse, so does his obsession with getting revenge on the people who destroyed his life.

A DC film that’s not afraid to get nasty

One of the things I enjoyed most about Clayface was how completely it commits to being a horror film. This isn’t a superhero story with a few frightening scenes thrown in for good measure. James Watkins, who previously directed Eden Lake and the 2024 remake of Speak No Evil, makes full use of the film’s 18 rating, and some of the scenes are pretty horrible to watch. Matt’s initial attack is especially brutal, and the moments involving his changing face only get more uncomfortable as the story goes on.

TOM RHYS HARRIES as Matt Hagen in DC Studios’ Clayface. Image Credit: © Courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures

The body horror is easily one of the film’s strongest elements. There is a lot of blood, skin and some truly horrible things happening to the human face, but the practical effects are excellent and make it all feel disturbingly real. One sequence involving Matt trying to deal with his deteriorating face during a flight is especially grim, and there were definitely a few moments during the London screening where I had to hide behind my fingers. Of course, I still kept watching.

Watkins also does a good job of keeping the film moving, especially during its first half. There’s very little time to settle before something else goes wrong for Matt, and the film makes good use of the tension surrounding his transformations. It helps that the horror comes from more than just the violence itself, as there’s something quite upsetting about watching a character slowly lose control of his own body and appearance. Although the film eventually becomes more reliant on CGI, the earlier practical effects are impressive and give the horror a more physical, uncomfortable feel.

Tom Rhys Harries makes Matt Hagen a character worth caring about

As much as Clayface delivers on the horror, it wouldn’t work nearly as well without a strong performance at its centre, and Tom Rhys Harries is excellent as Matt Hagen. He manages to make Matt sympathetic even as his behaviour becomes harder to defend, taking him from a confident young actor with everything going for him to someone completely consumed by anger and desperation. There’s a sadness to the character that makes his story more interesting than a straightforward villain origin, and Harries carries that side of the film very well.

Naomi Ackie is great as Caitlyn Corr, the scientist behind the treatment that gives Matt a chance to get his old life back. As she starts to realise how badly things are going wrong for him, their scenes add a bit more emotion to everything happening around the horror. David Dencik is also very easy to hate as the gangster who sets so much of the story in motion, while Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan round out a strong supporting cast and help make Gotham feel grimy and corrupt without Batman needing to appear to remind us where we are.

(L-R) TOM RHYS HARRIES as Matt Hagen and NAOMI ACKIE as Caitlyn Corr in DC Studios’ Clayface .Image Credit: © Parisa Taghizadeh

I also liked that the film gives Matt a reason for becoming a villain beyond simply wanting revenge. His whole life has been built around his appearance and acting career, so losing his face means losing much of what he’s worked for. There’s something rather sad about how desperately he wants to return to the person he was, even when it becomes clear that doing so might no longer be possible. The more he tries to regain control, the worse things become, and Harries does a brilliant job of showing that change.

A strong first half, even if the story loses some of its edge

While I enjoyed Clayface quite a bit, I do think the first half is stronger than what follows. The early scenes are frightening because Matt has no idea what’s happening to him, and neither do we know exactly how far his condition will go. Once he begins to understand his abilities, the film moves further into familiar comic book territory, with revenge becoming the main focus and some of that initial horror giving way to bigger action sequences.

TOM RHYS HARRIES as Matt Hagen in DC Studios’ Clayface. Image Credit: © Courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures

That doesn’t mean the second half stops being fun. There’s a wild nightclub sequence that makes great use of Matt’s ability to change his appearance, and the transformations only get stranger as things go on. I did miss some of the tension from earlier in the film, though, when even the smallest change to his face was enough to make you uneasy.

A few of the character relationships could also have done with more time, especially as the story heads into its final act. At just under two hours, Clayface has a lot going on, and although it moves quickly, some of the emotional moments feel a little rushed. That’s a shame, because the scenes that spend more time with Matt as a person give the horror a lot more impact.

The CultureCues Verdict

For CultureCues, Clayface surprised me with just how much I enjoyed it, and it feels like one of the more interesting directions DC has taken with its films in recent years. I loved that it wasn’t afraid to embrace the horror side of the character, and Tom Rhys Harries gives a brilliant performance that makes Matt Hagen someone you can feel sorry for, even when he’s doing some pretty awful things. The first half is easily my favourite, with some excellent practical effects and scenes that had me squirming in my seat, although I do wish the film had held on to a little more of that tension towards the end. Still, there was something refreshing about leaving a DC film having watched a proper horror story rather than another superhero adventure, and I’d love to see the studio take a few more chances like this. It’s bloody, disturbing and occasionally difficult to watch, but I had a great time with it, and for horror fans, there’s plenty here to enjoy.

CultureCues Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Clayface is in UK cinemas now, having been released on 23 October 2026. Rated 18.

Miranda Hart has been murdered, and quite frankly, I’m fuming. Friday night’s episode of The Celebrity Traitors saw another favourite leave the castle after Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny chose Miranda as their latest victim. Her departure was bad enough, but what followed might have been even more frustrating, as the Faithfuls continued to make some spectacularly questionable decisions. With the final approaching, the Traitors appear to have everything going their way, and I’m beginning to wonder whether the remaining Faithfuls have any idea what they’re doing.

Farewell to Miranda Hart

Miranda might have only been in the episode for a few minutes, but she still managed to steal the show. Her reaction to discovering she’d been murdered was brilliant, declaring “Oh, bottoms!” before reading her letter and throwing it away in mock anger. It was such a Miranda moment, and I’m still annoyed we won’t get to see more of her in the castle. She’d been such a lovely addition to the series, and I would happily have watched her stay right through to the final.

But there was also a really lovely moment as Miranda reflected on what being part of The Celebrity Traitors had meant to her. After spending years dealing with health problems and being away from television, she spoke about how special it had been to return to doing what she loves, from performing again to simply being outdoors in the Scottish Highlands, laughing and spending time with other people. She admitted there had been times when she wasn’t sure she’d be able to do those things again, which made hearing her talk about the experience all the more emotional. It was such a heartfelt moment, and a lovely way to end her time on the show, even if I’m still not happy about her being murdered.

The Faithfuls handed all the power to the Traitors

If losing Miranda wasn’t bad enough, the Field of Screams mission made things even more frustrating. The contestants had to choose three people they trusted most to be in with a chance of winning a special power, knocking the others out by destroying scarecrows with their names on them. Michael Sheen and James Blunt had plenty to say about who they thought could be trusted, and seemed pretty pleased with their choices.

So, who did the Faithfuls end up picking? Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny. That’s right, all three Traitors. Somehow, they managed to pick every single one of them.

I’m struggling to understand how we’ve reached a point where the three people deceiving everyone are considered the most trustworthy contestants in the castle. Maya, James and Kenny have barely faced any suspicion, yet rather than question why, the Faithfuls have rewarded them with even more power. Even Claudia Winkleman couldn’t resist commenting on the extraordinary coincidence of all three ending up together, although the irony was completely lost on the people who needed to hear it.

To make matters worse, Kenny ended up winning the dagger, giving him a double vote at the Round Table. So not only had the Faithfuls managed to put all three Traitors in the running for a special power, they’d now given one of them the deciding vote over who would be banished.

Michael Sheen, I love you, but what are you doing?

I love Michael Sheen. I really do. He’s a brilliant actor, seems like a lovely man, and is exactly the sort of person I’d want on my team in almost any other situation. Unfortunately, that situation cannot involve identifying Traitors, because his detective skills have been rather less impressive than his acting career.

Michael seems convinced that Sharon Rooney is a Traitor, although most of his suspicions appear to come from how flustered she gets when she’s accused. To be fair, Sharon hasn’t exactly helped herself with some of her reactions, but being nervous at the Round Table doesn’t mean she’s guilty. Michael and James Blunt seem so sure they’re on the right track, despite being completely wrong, while Maya, James Acaster and Kenny are barely getting a second look.

It’s frustrating because the Faithfuls aren’t short of intelligent, capable people. Michael is thoughtful and articulate, and there are plenty of strong personalities left in the castle who should be able to put the pieces together. Yet they’re so focused on those who react badly to being questioned that they’ve barely considered the people who appear far too comfortable. At this stage, I’d quite like someone to sit Michael down, explain the difference between a nervous Faithful and a convincing Traitor, and send him back to the Round Table for another attempt.

A dramatic cliffhanger, but are the stakes really that high?

The episode ended with Sharon Rooney and Joanne McNally tied at the Round Table, leaving Kenny with the deciding vote thanks to his dagger. He’s already voted for Sharon, so there’s a good chance he’ll stick with her, meaning we could be saying goodbye to another Faithful. And as much as I don’t want to lose Joanne either, I’m really not ready to say goodbye to our Scottish gal Sharon! Although, to be fair, she does seem a bit fed up with the whole thing by now, and who can blame her when the Faithfuls keep looking in completely the wrong direction?

It’s a good cliffhanger, but knowing that both Sharon and Joanne are Faithfuls takes some of the excitement away. Joanne has attracted more suspicion after a few slip-ups throughout the game, so it’s understandable why some of the others have their doubts, but we know they’re wrong about both of them. Whoever goes home, the Traitors have managed to get through another Round Table without anyone coming close to catching them. And while I’ll obviously be sad to see either of them leave, I’d much rather be watching the Faithfuls finally put one of the actual Traitors under pressure.

That’s what I found most disappointing about the second half of this episode. The best Round Tables are the ones where suspicion begins to build, someone spots a contradiction, and a Traitor suddenly finds themselves in trouble. Here, we’re watching two innocent contestants fight to defend themselves while the people responsible sit comfortably out of danger. There’s only so much satisfaction in watching the Faithfuls repeatedly accuse the wrong people.

The CultureCues Verdict

For CultureCues, episode eight was a frustrating watch. I still love The Celebrity Traitors, and there’s no denying how entertaining Maya, James and Kenny have been, but I really need the Faithfuls to start giving them something to worry about. We’ve already seen Richard E. Grant and Hannah Fry banished, so there’s still hope that someone might finally begin asking the right questions, although the remaining Traitors currently look far too comfortable for my liking. And with that Round Table cliffhanger leaving us potentially having to say goodbye to oor Sharon (sigh!), things aren’t looking much better. I’m hoping we get a proper twist, a surprise accusation or at least one Faithful who finally works out what’s happening right under their noses, because watching the Traitors stroll into the final without a serious challenge would be a disappointing end to an otherwise brilliant series.

The Celebrity Traitors continues Thursday 29 October at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

After a three-year wait, Lupin is finally back, with Omar Sy returning as Assane Diop for another run of heists, disguises and trouble. Part 4 arrived on Netflix this morning, Friday 23 October, and all eight episodes are now available to stream in the UK.

What Happens in Lupin Part 4?

The new episodes pick up four years after Part 3, with Assane still in prison after turning himself in to protect the people closest to him. He has decided that his days as Lupin are over and plans to serve his sentence before eventually joining his family in Senegal.

That changes when a mysterious announcement signed by “Lupin” appears, promising a series of simultaneous museum robberies. The heists go ahead despite increased security, and when evidence starts pointing directly at Assane, he is forced back into the world he thought he had left behind. To clear his name and uncover who is copying him, he has to escape and become Lupin once again.

The new season also follows on from the final twist of Part 3, which hinted that Hubert Pellegrini was still involved in Assane’s story. Hervé Pierre returns as Pellegrini, alongside Ludivine Sagnier as Claire, Antoine Gouy as Benjamin, Soufiane Guerrab as Youssef Guedira and Shirine Boutella as Sofia Belkacem.

Théo Christine as Raoul and Ludivine Sagnier as Claire. Image Credit: © Courtesy of Netflix

There is also a change for Assane and Claire’s son Raoul, with Théo Christine taking over the role following the four-year time jump. Laïka Blanc-Francard also joins the cast for Part 4.

Omar Sy Has a Bigger Role Behind the Scenes

Sy returns as Assane, but he is also taking on more responsibility behind the camera this time around. He serves as co-showrunner alongside Louis Leterrier, with the series continuing to take inspiration from Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin stories.

For CultureCues, it has been a long wait for this one, so we are very glad Lupin is finally back. We’ve been looking forward to its return, and with all eight episodes dropping together, we already know this is going to be a binge watch. After three years away, let the games begin.

All eight episodes of Lupin Part 4 are streaming now on Netflix.

Lea Michele is returning as Rachel Berry in the Glee reboot, while Heather Morris, Chord Overstreet and Dianna Agron are all fuelling reunion speculation. Lea Michele is reportedly returning as Rachel Berry in the new Glee series, and several other original cast members are already dropping some very interesting hints.

We already knew Glee was officially coming back, but now the original cast reunion is starting to look a lot more real. Lea Michele is reportedly set to return as Rachel Berry in the new Disney+ and Hulu series, with multiple sources confirming the casting on 22 October. Representatives for Michele and Ryan Murphy declined to comment, but the report says her return is already in place, which feels like the first proper sign that this new series could have a much stronger connection to the original cast than we first knew.

Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet have also both shared social media posts that seem to hint at returns as Brittany Pierce and Sam Evans, although neither has been officially confirmed yet. Murphy previously said he had been in touch with around ten members of the original cast, so there are clearly more conversations happening behind the scenes than we know about right now. For longtime fans, that makes every post, throwback and suspiciously timed video feel worth watching very closely.

Is Dianna Agron Returning as Quinn Fabray?

Nothing has been confirmed for Dianna Agron yet, but she has definitely added fuel to the fire. Agron is currently filming the fifth and final season of HBO’s Industry, and just one day after the Glee reboot was announced she shared a Glee-themed video with her co-stars Myha’la and Ben Platt, recreating Quinn Fabray’s “I Say a Little Prayer” choreography.

That is one of Quinn’s most memorable moments from the original series, and seeing Agron revisit it right after the reboot news was always going to get fans talking. It is not confirmation that Quinn is coming back, but the timing is very interesting, especially with more original cast names already being linked to the new series. At this point, every original cast post is going to have Gleeks analysing it for clues, and CultureCues will absolutely be doing the same.

Could Heather Morris Return as Brittany?

Heather Morris is another name we would obviously love to see back, but Brittany’s return also comes with a much bigger question because Santana will not be there. Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez, died in 2020, and Brittany and Santana’s relationship became such an important part of Glee for so many fans. If Morris does return, the new series is going to have to handle Santana’s absence with real care. Personally, we really hope they do not take the easy route and kill Santana off within the story just to explain why she is not there. Brittany and Santana got their happy ending, and that meant a lot to people, so if Brittany comes back, there needs to be a thoughtful reason for Santana not being with her that respects both the character and Rivera’s legacy.

Please, Glee. Do not mess with Brittana.

Who Else Could Return?

Disney+ and Hulu have already given the new Glee series a full series order, with Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan behind the project. Story details are still being kept under wraps, so we do not yet know how Rachel, Quinn, Brittany, Sam or any of the other returning characters would fit into the new series, but the original cast involvement already seems to be becoming a much bigger part of the conversation.

For CultureCues, we were already excited when the reboot was announced, but now Lea Michele is coming back as Rachel Berry, Dianna Agron is recreating Quinn’s “I Say a Little Prayer” routine and Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet are out here dropping hints, so yes, prepare for us to become very annoying about this. We are fully back in Gleek mode, we are watching every post, and if more of the original cast start being confirmed, we are going to need to talk about all of it. Gleeks, this is getting serious.

The new Glee series is coming to Disney+ and Hulu, with Lea Michele reportedly returning as Rachel Berry.

RAYE has won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her second album, This Music May Contain Hope, adding another huge award to what has already been an incredible few years for the British singer. The winner was announced at the Mercury Prize ceremony at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on Thursday 22 October, with RAYE beating a shortlist that included Olivia Dean, Paul McCartney, JADE, Dave, Florence + The Machine and Suede. It marks her first Mercury Prize win after her debut album, My 21st Century Blues, was nominated in 2023.

The award recognises the best British or Irish album of the year and comes with a £25,000 prize. The judging panel praised the “scale, structure, ambition and sheer charm” of RAYE’s album, saying she showed “real imagination and scope” across the record.

RAYE Wins for This Music May Contain Hope

Released in March, This Music May Contain Hope became RAYE’s second major album release following the success of My 21st Century Blues. The 17-track record runs for more than 70 minutes and moves through big band jazz, pop, soul, funk and balladry, with more than 100 musicians involved across the album.

It also includes “Where Is My Husband!”, which went on to become another major hit for RAYE, reaching number one in the UK. The album itself also topped the UK Albums Chart, continuing a run that has seen her become one of the country’s biggest artists after previously speaking openly about the difficulties she faced trying to release a debut album under her former label.

Accepting the Mercury Prize, RAYE said she was “shaking” and “grateful” as she collected the award. She also spoke about how important albums are to her and reflected on coming from a period in her career where so much of the focus had been placed on singles.

Raye Performing I Hate The Way I Look Today during the Mercury Prize ceremony. Image Credit: © Getty Images

Hope is also at the heart of the album, with RAYE explaining during her acceptance speech that although it can feel like a “cheesy word”, it is something everyone needs.

Who Else Was Nominated for the Mercury Prize 2026?

RAYE faced a seriously strong shortlist this year. Olivia Dean was nominated for The Art of Loving, while Paul McCartney received his first Mercury Prize nomination for The Boys of Dungeon Lane. JADE made the shortlist with That’s Showbiz, Baby!, alongside Dave’s The Boy Who Played the Harp, Florence + The Machine’s Everybody Scream and Suede’s Antidepressants.

The remaining nominees were Dove Ellis with Blizzard, Knats with A Great Day in Newcastle, Kojey Radical with Don’t Look Down, Nia Archives with Emotional Junglist and the War Child compilation Help(2).

RAYE also took to the stage during the ceremony to perform “I Hate The Way I Look Today”, while Suede, Florence + The Machine, Knats and several of the other shortlisted artists performed across the night. Pulp also appeared representing the Help(2) charity album.

Last year’s Mercury Prize was won by Sam Fender for People Watching, with the award returning to Newcastle again for 2026.

For CultureCues, this one feels very deserved. RAYE has had such an incredible few years, and watching everything that has happened since she finally got to release music on her own terms has been brilliant. This Music May Contain Hope is a huge, ambitious album and she has clearly put everything into it, so seeing her add a Mercury Prize to the collection feels like another massive moment. At this rate, RAYE is going to need a bigger shelf.

Warning: This review contains spoilers for Nobody Wants This Season 3.

By its third season, Nobody Wants This has already put Noah and Joanne through two seasons of breaking up, getting back together and wondering whether they could actually make the relationship work. This time, they finally get to move past that. They are together, they have made it through the biggest hurdles, and Season 3 starts with them taking the next step and moving in together.

Thankfully, the show does not immediately find another reason to split them up. Instead, it lets Noah and Joanne figure out what being a real couple actually looks like day to day, from living together and getting on each other’s nerves to making bigger decisions about their future. There are still arguments, awkward moments and plenty of differences between them, but the constant question of whether they can make the relationship work is no longer hanging over every episode.

That change suits the show. Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are still incredibly easy to watch together, and there is something quite lovely about seeing Joanne and Noah get to enjoy being a couple after everything the first two seasons put them through. Their relationship now has to deal with the smaller things too, from Joanne leaving cupboards open and destroying Noah’s idea of an organised kitchen to discovering how much space two people actually need when living together. The stakes might not always be huge, but the chemistry is still there, and letting them be happy for more than five minutes is honestly a relief.

(L to R) Adam Brody as Noah, Kristen Bell as Joanne in episode 309 of Nobody Wants This.
Joanne’s decision to move forward with converting to Judaism also gives the season another side of her relationship with Noah to explore. It takes her into a part of his life she has spent much of the series standing outside of, and although the storyline is still played with plenty of humour, it also shows that she is taking their future seriously. It gives their relationship somewhere new to go and lets the season spend more time on what building a life together actually looks like for them.

Morgan and Sasha Finally Get Their Moment

With Noah and Joanne in a more stable place, more of the romantic tension shifts towards Morgan and Sasha, and that is probably the smartest choice the season makes.

(L to R) Timothy Simons as Sasha, Justine Lupe as Morgan in episode 307 of Nobody Wants This. Image Credit: Katrina Marcinowski/Netflix © 2026

Justine Lupe has always been one of the funniest people in Nobody Wants This, and Morgan remains wonderfully selfish, petty and completely capable of making almost any situation about herself. Timothy Simons is equally good as Sasha, whose slightly ridiculous personality has always made his scenes with Morgan some of the most entertaining in the show. There has been something between them for a long time, and Season 3 finally has the space to actually deal with it.

Sasha and Esther are now separated, which changes the dynamic considerably and allows his friendship with Morgan to move into much more obvious will-they-won’t-they territory. Lupe and Simons have great chemistry and, arguably, even more of that new-romance spark this season. We love Bell and Brody together and they still absolutely ooze chemistry, but Morgan and Sasha have that slightly messier, more unpredictable energy that makes their scenes really fun to watch.

(L to R) Kristen Bell as Joanne, Jackie Tohn as Esther in episode 303 of Nobody Wants This. Image Credit: Katrina Marcinowski/Netflix © 2026

The one person who does get a little lost in all of this is Esther. Jackie Tohn is still brilliant, and after everything Sasha and Esther have been through, it would have been nice to spend a bit more time with her as she adjusts to their split. She does get her own storyline, but at points it feels like the show is rushing past her side of things to focus on Morgan and Sasha.

The Williams Sisters Are Still a Mess

Some of the funniest parts of the season continue to come from Joanne and Morgan together, especially because neither of them is suddenly transformed into a completely different person just because their lives are changing.

(L to R) Kristen Bell as Joanne, Justine Lupe as Morgan in episode 305 of Nobody Wants This. Image Credit: Courtesy of Netflix © 2026

Morgan gets a bigger storyline with her career this season, while Joanne is starting to realise that being cynical about love does not really fit her life anymore. The show still lets both sisters be selfish and irritating, and sometimes they absolutely are, but there is also more awareness of what those behaviours actually do to the people around them.

Lupe continues to steal huge chunks of the series whenever Morgan is on screen. She can make even the pettiest line funny, but there is more happening underneath that this season too, particularly as Morgan starts dealing with changes in both her career and personal life.

Season 3 Is Still an Easy Binge

Not everything in Season 3 has the same momentum. There are a couple of episodes in the middle where not a huge amount actually happens, and some of the side stories are stronger than others. At times, you can tell the show is still working out what comes next now that Noah and Joanne are finally together. But the episodes fly by, the cast is great and the Los Angeles setting remains gorgeous, so even the weaker storylines never drag for long. It also helps enormously that this season actually makes progress rather than sending Noah and Joanne back around the same circle again.

(L to R) Adam Brody as Noah, Kristen Bell as Joanne in episode 308 of Nobody Wants This. Image Credit: Katrina Marcinowski/Netflix © 2026

For CultureCues, we really enjoyed Season 3. Noah and Joanne are still the reason we fell in love with the show in the first place, so finally getting to watch them actually build a life together rather than spend another season wondering whether they should be together was exactly what we wanted. Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are brilliant together, Justine Lupe continues to be hilarious, and Morgan and Sasha give the season another relationship to get invested in. It does lose a little of the excitement that came with meeting these characters for the first time, and not every storyline hits quite as well, but this is still such an easy, funny show to watch. Season 3 might be a little more grown up, but we are absolutely still in love with it. Nobody wants this? We certainly do.

CultureCues Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Fleetwood Mac are getting their first fully authorised documentary, with Fleetwood Mac: The Chain set to tell the band’s story in their own words through new interviews, archive material and never-before-seen footage. The Apple Original Films documentary will premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday 29 January 2027. Directed by five-time Academy Award nominee Frank Marshall, the film brings together the voices, memories and perspectives of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks as it looks back across more than 50 years of Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood Mac Tell Their Own Story

Fleetwood Mac: The Chain will trace the band’s history from the arrival of Buckingham and Nicks in 1974 through the records, tours, relationships and personal struggles that became part of Fleetwood Mac’s story. The documentary will include exclusive new interviews alongside material that has never previously been seen, looking at how the five members managed to keep making music together despite the tensions happening around them. Their story has become almost as famous as the songs themselves, with relationships ending, band members leaving and returning, and enormous success unfolding at the same time.

Fleetwood Mac have sold more than 220 million records worldwide, and the documentary will look at what each member brought to the group as well as what repeatedly pulled them back together when things threatened to fall apart.

Why Is the Documentary Called The Chain?

The title comes from “The Chain”, one of Fleetwood Mac’s most famous songs and the only track on Rumours credited to all five members. Apple says the song reflects the bond between Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, which makes it a pretty perfect title for a film about both the music they made together and everything that was happening behind the scenes.

The timing also gives the film another connection to Rumours, with Fleetwood Mac: The Chain arriving as the album celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2027.

Frank Marshall Directs the Documentary

Frank Marshall directs and produces the film through The Kennedy/Marshall Company, working alongside White Horse Pictures. Marshall’s previous documentary work includes music and cultural films, while White Horse Pictures has been behind projects including The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years and No Direction Home: Bob Dylan. Mark Monroe serves as writer and executive producer, with Nigel Sinclair, Nicholas Ferrall, Jeanne Elfant Festa and Aly Parker among the producers.

For CultureCues, this feels long overdue, so this announcement has already gone triple platinum in our group chat. We love Fleetwood Mac, so the fact we are finally getting a fully authorised documentary with new interviews and never-before-seen footage is very exciting. We cannot wait to see what has been pulled from the archives, especially with it arriving for the 50th anniversary of Rumours… You can go your own way, but we’ll be watching this one in January.

The Celebrity Traitors returned on Thursday night with last week’s murder in plain sight cliffhanger finally resolved, and Ross Kemp turned out to be the unlucky celebrity who had been taken out by Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny. The Traitors had been tasked with murdering either Ross or Jerry Hall by getting one of them to inhale perfume from a peacock bottle and then yawn before one of the Traitors said: “Sorry, am I boring you?” After struggling to make it happen before the deadline, Ross eventually yawned in the library and James completed the murder. There is something quite funny about Ross being the one killed in plain sight after spending so much time worrying that exactly that kind of thing might happen to him. Prophecy fulfilled.

It was not necessarily the cleanest move from the Traitors either. With Ross in the library alongside Maya and James when it happened, the murder could easily have pointed suspicion back towards them, and Sharon Rooney did eventually work out that the perfume bottle had something to do with it. For now, though, the Traitors managed to get away with it.

Who Was Banished in The Celebrity Traitors Episode 7?

Despite getting closer to understanding Ross’s murder, the Faithful still failed to catch a Traitor at the Round Table and instead banished Jerry Hall.

Jerry revealed that she had been Faithful all along, meaning Maya, James and King Kenny all survived another episode without being exposed. She left on good terms too, telling the group she had loved her time in the game and had “the most fun”.

The episode also saw another challenge where the Traitors were supposed to sabotage the Faithful during a shield-building mission in order to add money to the prize pot. James, however, chose not to take part in the sabotage, which did not exactly please Maya and Kenny.

Who Is at Risk of Murder Next?

With Jerry gone, the Traitors returned to the turret and put Bash, Romesh and Miranda on the murder shortlist. One of them will become the next victim, with the result revealed in Friday night’s episode.

For CultureCues, Ross being murdered in plain sight after being one of the most paranoid people in the castle is almost too perfect. The Traitors got away with it, but leaving Maya and James so close to him when it happened could easily have come back to bite them, and Sharon getting onto the perfume clue shows the Faithful are not completely lost. Jerry going instead was another win for the Traitors, though, and now Bash, Romesh and Miranda are the ones who need to worry. We’ll find out who made it through next time.

The Celebrity Traitors continues tomorrow, Friday 23 October, at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Leo Reich’s new comedy It Gets Worse has arrived on Channel 4, with all six episodes available to stream from today, Thursday 22 October. The first episode also airs tonight at 10:05pm on Channel 4, introducing Ethan, Sam and Abi, three former university friends trying to work out what adulthood is actually supposed to look like while living in London. Reich created and wrote the six-part A24 series and stars as Ethan, alongside Olive Gray as Sam and Emily Fairn as Abi, with Dane Williams playing Josh and India Mullen as Zara. The series is directed by Mounia Akl.

Andrew Scott, Lena Dunham and Amelia Dimoldenberg are also among the cast.

CultureCues caught up with some of the cast at the BFI London Film Festival ahead of the show’s release to talk about where the idea came from, how much of themselves they found in their characters and why friendship sits at the heart of it all.

Leo Reich on Finally Getting It Gets Worse Out Into the World

Reich was very ready for people to finally see the series when we spoke to him, joking that making comedy so long before anyone gets to react to it creates a slightly strange experience. “It feels like I told a joke a year ago and I’ve waited a year to get some laughs,” he told CultureCues. “So hopefully they laugh.”

Leo Reich. Image Credit: © Nikki Murray/CultureCues

As for where It Gets Worse came from, Reich said it grew out of a feeling he recognised in both himself and his friends as they moved through their twenties. Life can be easier in plenty of practical ways, but that does not necessarily make figuring everything else out any simpler.

He described “a big existential storm cloud of dread hovering over every decision you ever make”, adding that he found something funny in that contradiction.

Olive Gray Found Plenty of Themself in Sam

Olive Gray told CultureCues that Sam reminded them of a younger version of themself in a lot of ways, although Sam is “way more cynical”.

What really pulled Gray towards the role, though, was Reich’s writing. “There’s something very real about Leo’s writing,” they said, describing it as hilarious while also capturing the characters and their generation in an honest way. “I’m like a sucker for good writing, and Leo is amazing.”

Olive Gray. Image Credit: © Nikki Murray/CultureCues

The friendship between the three central characters also translated off screen. Gray described working with Reich and Fairn as “really heaven”, explaining that although all three actors are different, there were similarities between each of them and their characters that made the group click.

Gray also told us that they all somehow share the same star sign as their characters, with Gray and Sam both Sagittarius, Fairn and Abi both Virgo, and Reich and Ethan both Leo. We joked that it was literally “written in the stars”, which got a laugh and pretty much summed up how strangely perfect the casting turned out to be.

Emily Fairn on Bringing Her Own Scouse Background to Abi

Emily Fairn worked closely with Reich on shaping Abi and said they leaned into her own Scouse background when developing the character. For Fairn, that was important to a series about young people living in London because so many of the people building lives there have come from somewhere else. She spoke about that idea of moving to the city with a big dream, only to find yourself paying enormous rent, wondering what you are doing and missing your family back home. “I related to it so much,” she told us.

Emily Fairn. Image Credit: © Nikki Murray/CultureCues

When we asked what she hoped people in their twenties might take from the series, Fairn gave probably the best summary of It Gets Worse: “It gets worse, but also it does get a bit better.”

For her, friendship is a big part of that. She talked about finding people who see you for who you really are, even when work is going badly or “your boyfriend’s a bit rubbish”, before adding with a laugh that good friends are all you need… “as well as money for rent.”

Dane Williams Knew He Wanted to Play Josh

Dane Williams told CultureCues that as soon as he got the script, he knew he wanted to play Josh, partly because he could already see a lot of similarities between the character and himself. “Leo’s description of the character was so specific and so nuanced,” he said. “I knew exactly, like, I need to do that. That is my character.” Once he read the full scripts and saw how funny the show was, as well as how much complexity there was to Josh, he wanted the role even more.

Dane Williams. Image Credit: © Nikki Murray/CultureCues

With It Gets Worse being such a funny show, we also asked what the atmosphere was like on set and whether it was difficult not to laugh, especially with Reich around. “Leo creates such a fun, funny environment on set that a lot of the time you’d just break out into laughter,” Williams said, adding that everyone was still focused on doing the best job they could.

India Mullen Got to Have Fun Being the “Fuckboy”

India Mullen had a slightly different reason for enjoying Zara. She described Reich to CultureCues as “the funniest man alive”, and joked that the role finally gave her the chance to be a bit of a “fuckboy”. Mullen laughed that she had more experience being on the receiving end of that behaviour, so getting to switch sides and play that kind of character was a lot of fun.

For CultureCues, we loved chatting to the cast at the London Film Festival. Everyone was so lovely and funny, and it was clear they all had such a good time making the show together. We’ve watched the full series now too and it is hilarious, with so many moments that had us laughing out loud and plenty that will probably feel a little too familiar if you’ve ever tried to figure out your twenties. We’ll have our full CultureCues review of It Gets Worse very soon.

All six episodes of It Gets Worse are available to stream now on Channel 4. Episode 1 airs tonight, Thursday 22 October, at 10:05pm on Channel 4.

Burnham will watch and react to the week’s television alongside Mayor of Liverpool Steve Rotheram, with the pair joining a growing celebrity line-up that also includes Sugababes members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy, as well as Joe Lycett with his aunties Margaret and Pauline.

The special airs on Friday 23 October at 9:05pm on Channel 4.

Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram Join the Sofa

Burnham, who became Prime Minister in July 2026 after previously serving as Mayor of Greater Manchester, will appear alongside Rotheram as the pair settle down to review some of the week’s biggest television moments. Channel 4 has already shared a short teaser of them together, with the special mixing the usual Gogglebox reactions with stories connected to Stand Up To Cancer.

The appearance also makes Burnham the first sitting Prime Minister to take part in Gogglebox, with the episode filmed at Number 10.

Sugababes and Joe Lycett Are Also Taking Part

Sugababes are also joining the special, with Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy watching together, while comedian Joe Lycett will be joined by his aunties Margaret and Pauline. More celebrity guests are still expected to be announced before the episode airs.

The one-off episode is being made in support of Stand Up To Cancer, the fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. Since launching in the UK in 2012, the campaign has raised more than £127 million to support cancer research, clinical trials and new treatments.

For CultureCues, celebrity Gogglebox specials are usually good fun anyway, but this is definitely one of the more unexpected sofas we’ve seen. Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram alongside Sugababes and Joe Lycett is quite the line-up, and we’re excited to see who else joins them and what they make of some of the week’s biggest TV moments. We’ll definitely be tuning in on Friday.

MasterChef: The Professionals is heading back to BBC One for Series 19, with Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti returning to judge another group of professional chefs from across the UK. The new series will run for seven weeks and feature 24 chefs competing for the MasterChef: The Professionals trophy. As always, they will be tested across a mix of challenges designed to show their technique, creativity, knowledge and ability to perform under pressure, with the competition eventually narrowing down to this year’s finalists.

When Does MasterChef: The Professionals 2026 Start?

Series 19 begins on Tuesday 3 November at 8pm on BBC One, with the second episode following on Wednesday 4 November at 9pm and the third airing on Thursday 5 November at 8pm. Episodes will continue three times a week across the seven-week run, with 21 episodes in total.

The BBC has also confirmed that each week’s three episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer every Monday, giving viewers the option to watch ahead rather than waiting for the BBC One broadcasts. The series will then reach its grand final on Friday 18 December at 8pm.

Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti Are Back

Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti return as the judging duo for Series 19, following a previous series that saw Matt Tebbutt join the line-up alongside them. Tebbutt confirmed earlier this year that he would not be returning, explaining that he had only ever planned to do one series.

Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti. Image Credit: © BBC/Shine TV

Who Is Taking Part in MasterChef: The Professionals Series 19?

The BBC has now confirmed the full line-up of chefs taking part this year, with contestants coming from restaurant kitchens, private chef work, catering, teaching and their own food businesses.

The Series 19 line-up is Abigail Smith, Aleandro Brown, Alfred Petty, Andrea Ruszel, Ben Black, Clara Lim, Connor Wilson, Dan Nunn, Dominique Ogunlowo, Filomena D’Uva, Gregory Schaad-Jackson, Ibraheem “Ibz” Umar, Inayya Hamid, Isabel Almeida Da Silva, Jacintha Henderson, Jack Sencherey-Evans, Jemma Harrison, Jim Foster-Grundy, Kieran Jones, Manuel Ribeiro, Matty Grove, Morteza Nouri, Ruchi Mehrotra and Sebastian Brooks.

There is a Scottish connection in the line-up too, with Jacintha Henderson, a lecturer at City of Glasgow College and freelance chef, among those competing. Kieran Jones is also based at Sunlaws Restaurant at Schloss Roxburghe Hotel, adding another Scottish link to this year’s competition.

For CultureCues, MasterChef: The Professionals is always one we enjoy because the standard of cooking gets high very quickly and the competition usually becomes intense once the chefs settle in. We’re also glad to see Marcus and Monica back together, and with 24 chefs from such different backgrounds, there should be plenty to get stuck into this year. We’ll definitely be watching in November, and we’re ready to see who can handle the heat in the kitchen.

MasterChef: The Professionals returns on Tuesday 3 November at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Ghosts. Image Credit: © BBC

Halloween is getting closer, and BBC iPlayer has filled up with horror films, creepy television, paranormal stories and a few much safer options for anyone who wants the spooky season without spending the night checking every dark corner of the house.

There is a pretty big mix available this October too. Horror fans can choose from Stephen King adaptations, modern favourites and older classics, while the TV selection ranges from vampires and ghosts to slashers and paranormal investigations. There are also plenty of family-friendly picks, plus a whole collection of Doctor Who episodes made for a late-October rewatch.

Horror Films to Watch on BBC iPlayer This Halloween

If you want an actual horror night, there is plenty to choose from. The Mist, based on Stephen King’s story, follows a father and son trapped inside a supermarket after a mysterious mist brings something terrifying with it, while Starve Acrestars Matt Smith in a 1970s-set folk horror about a family living on a remote farm.

The Silence of the Lambs. Image Credit: © Orion Pictures

Jordan Peele’s Get Out is also available, alongside The Silence of the Lambs, starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, and Remi Weekes’ brilliant His House. There is also The Wicker Man, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Candyman, Immaculate and the very unsettling Longlegs if you are looking for something a little more recent.

Other films currently included in the BBC’s Halloween selection include Fall, Horror Express, I Walked with a Zombie and The Awakening, with even more available through the Fright Night collection on BBC iPlayer.

Spooky TV Shows on BBC iPlayer

The TV side is a little more mixed, so there are options if full horror is not really your thing. What We Do in the Shadows and Ghosts are both available if you would rather have your supernatural stories with plenty of comedy, while The Reluctant Vampire, based on the books by Eric Morecambe and starring Lenny Rush, follows a vampire heir who discovers he is actually human.

The Reluctant Vampire. Image Credit: © BBC

For something bloodier, Wreck mixes comedy, conspiracy and slasher horror as Jamie searches for his missing sister aboard a cruise ship. Uncanny brings Danny Robins’ paranormal stories to television, while Paranormal and Hauntings offer more real-life ghost stories and unexplained mysteries.

There is also Scottish Gaelic horror Loch nam Madadh / Wolf Bay, following Angus as he returns to North Uist for his grandfather’s funeral and ends up trapped aboard a ferry entering the mysterious Wolf Bay. The series will be available on BBC iPlayer from Friday 23 October.

Loch nam Madadh / Wolf Bay.
The Best Doctor Who Episodes for Halloween

BBC iPlayer has also pulled together plenty of Doctor Who episodes that are basically made for Halloween. That includes The Empty Child, The Waters of Mars, Midnight, The God Complex, Silence in the Library, Village of the Angels, Listen, Hide and, of course, Blink. So if Weeping Angels are somehow your idea of a relaxing Halloween evening, there are plenty waiting for you.

Doctor Who. Image Credit: © BBC

Strictly Come Dancing Halloween Week Is Coming

The Strictly ballroom will also get its annual Halloween makeover on 31 October, with the remaining celebrities and professional dancers taking on spooky routines for Halloween Week. The judges normally get just as involved, with Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke memorably turning up as the twins from The Shining for Halloween 2025. Whether this year brings tricks or treats remains to be seen.

Family-Friendly Halloween Picks

There are plenty of choices for younger viewers too. Three series of What’s New Scooby-Doo? are available on iPlayer, alongside Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Fright Krewe, Crazy Fun Park, Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon, Monster Loving Maniacs and The Worst Witch.

Fright Krewe. Image Credit: © BBC

So whether Halloween in your house means Longlegs with the lights off or Scooby-Doo with a bowl of sweets, there is quite a lot to work through before 31 October.

For CultureCues, this is the time of year when our watchlist basically turns into horror, horror and more horror, and there are some really good picks in here. Get Out, The Wicker Man, His House and Longlegs give you a pretty strong movie night on their own, and we will never say no to another excuse to rewatch Blink or Midnight.
It is official, Glee is coming back. Disney+ and Hulu have given a series order to a new version of the musical comedy, more than a decade after the doors of William McKinley High School closed for the final time. Original creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are behind the new series, with 20th Television once again producing.

The news comes after Murphy spent the last few months talking about returning to the world of Glee. He revealed in September that the trio had finished writing a script and had already been in contact with around ten members of the original cast about potentially being involved.

No returning cast members have officially been announced yet, and details about the story are also being kept under wraps. Murphy previously described the project as a new incarnation of the show, rather than confirming exactly how it will connect to the original six seasons.

The original Glee premiered in 2009 and followed the New Directions show choir at William McKinley High School in Ohio. Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, Dianna Agron, Darren Criss, Matthew Morrison and Jenna Ushkowitz were among the huge ensemble cast across its run, with the series becoming a major pop culture hit alongside the success of its music releases.

It ran for six seasons before ending in 2015, but has continued to find new audiences through streaming. Disney says the series still attracts around four million monthly listeners on Spotify, which perhaps explains why McKinley is opening its doors again.

Exactly which familiar faces might return remains one of the biggest questions. Chris Colfer recently said returning would be difficult without Naya Rivera, but also acknowledged how much Glee still means to its fans. Rivera died in 2020, while Cory Monteith died during the original run of the series in 2013.

For CultureCues, we loved Glee for a long time, and we’ll admit, watching some of it back now, some of those storylines are completely ridiculous, but that was also part of the fun. The songs, the performances and the sheer madness of it all made it such a massive show at the time, so we’re definitely interested to see what they do with it now and whether any of the original cast come back. Somewhere, Sue Sylvester is already preparing a speech… Gleeks, dust off the show choir playlist. We’re going back.

The new Glee series has been ordered by Disney+ and Hulu. A release date and cast have not yet been announced.

December 10 have announced an intimate warm-up show at O2 Academy Oxford on Tuesday 8 December, ahead of their first birthday celebrations in London later that week. The seven-piece will use the Oxford date as a warm-up for their biggest headline shows so far at the Eventim Apollo on 10 and 11 December. Both London dates are already sold out, with the new Oxford show giving fans another chance to see the band before they mark one year since officially forming.

Tickets for the O2 Academy Oxford show go on sale at 10am on Friday 23 October here.

It has already been a busy first year for Cruz, Danny, Hendrik, John, Josh, Nicolas and Seán, who were put together during Netflix series Simon Cowell: The Next Act and officially revealed when the show launched on 10 December 2025. Since then, December 10 have played festivals across the UK, Europe and Asia and completed their sold-out December 10: The Next Step UK and European headline tour. Their debut EP On Your Side also reached the Top 5 of the UK Official Albums Chart, becoming the highest-charting EP of 2026 so far and the highest-charting debut EP by a British boyband in more than a decade.

The Oxford show arrives just two days before the band’s actual first birthday on 10 December, when they will begin their two-night run at the Eventim Apollo.

For CultureCues, December 10 have packed a LOT into their first year, and going from being formed on a Netflix series to sold-out headline shows and a Top 5 EP in the space of 12 months is pretty wild. An intimate Oxford date just before those birthday shows should be a really fun way to round off the year too, especially for anyone who missed out on tickets for the other shows. One year in and they are certainly not slowing down.

December 10 play O2 Academy Oxford on Tuesday 8 December 2026. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday 23 October.

Sam Fender has announced a huge run of UK and Ireland dates for summer 2027, including his biggest headline shows yet and a stadium date in Edinburgh. The Proper Massive Stadium Tour will begin with two nights at St James’ Park in Newcastle before heading to Cardiff, London, Edinburgh and Manchester. Fender will play Wembley Stadium twice, on 18 and 20 June, before taking over Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on 8 July.

Wunderhorse will support Fender across all of the UK stadium dates, while the tour also includes a show at Dublin’s Marlay Park and Fender’s first European festival headline appearance at Rock Werchter in Belgium.

How to Get Sam Fender 2027 Tour Tickets

Fans wanting access to the ticket pre-sale can pre-order Fender’s fourth album through his official store before 9am on Monday 26 October. Eligible fans will receive a unique pre-sale code and link by 8pm on Tuesday 27 October.

The ticket pre-sale then opens at 9:30am on Wednesday 28 October, with a maximum of six tickets available per person. Having a pre-sale code does not guarantee tickets. General sale begins at 9:30am on Friday 30 October.

The stadium dates follow another huge few years for Fender, whose third album People Watching reached number one in 2025 and won the Mercury Prize. His Olivia Dean collaboration “Rein Me In” also became a major hit after the pair first performed it together at London Stadium, going on to dominate the UK charts for months with a record-breaking 23 non-consecutive weeks at number one.

For CultureCues, Sam Fender has had a massive couple of years, so Proper Massive Stadium Tour feels like a pretty appropriate name. The Edinburgh date is the one we’re especially looking forward to, and seeing him take over Murrayfield with Wunderhorse supporting should be a brilliant night. It is the kind of show we would absolutely love to be at, and one we’ll be keeping a very close eye on for summer 2027.

Sam Fender’s Proper Massive Stadium Tour takes place across the UK and Ireland in summer 2027, with tickets on general sale from 9:30am on Friday 30 October.

Warning: Major spoilers for Slow Horses Season 6, Episode 6 below.

Well, Slow Horses really decided not to let us leave Season 6 peacefully… The finale, “Judgment Day”, brings the conflict with Frank Harkness and his men to a violent end, kills off another major character and leaves Louisa Guy walking away from Slough House once again. Somehow, though, the biggest shock is saved for the final few minutes, when River Cartwright returns to his grandfather’s house expecting to find Sid Baker and instead collapses on the kitchen floor.

So, what exactly happened to River, who made it out of the finale alive and where does that leave us heading into Season 7?

What Happened in the Slow Horses Season 6 Finale?

Most of the finale centres around Diana Taverner’s safe house, where River, Catherine, Louisa, Shirley, Roddy, Moira, Reece and Emma Flyte find themselves caught in the middle of an attack involving Frank Harkness and his men. The group is forced out towards the beach as the situation gets more and more violent. Louisa is shot by Jane, River is stabbed in the hand and Emma ends up facing Harkness herself. She manages to wound him, but runs out of ammunition and is killed by Harkness on the beach.

Roddy later finds Emma’s body, and for once we see him completely stripped of the usual bravado. He eventually tries to help Shirley and Reece by firing at one of their attackers, and although his shooting leaves a lot to be desired, it gives Reece the chance to take the man down with a harpoon gun.

River ends up back inside the house with Jane, where Frank eventually arrives and shoots her before she can kill him. That leaves River and his father with a brief, deeply awkward conversation before Harkness makes his escape. Lamb then deals with the wider mess around Taverner and Damien Cantor by making Cantor the one who takes the fall, which gets Taverner out of trouble for now and leaves her owing Lamb yet another favour.

Who Dies in the Slow Horses Season 6 Finale?

The biggest loss is Emma Flyte, played by Ruth Bradley.

After joining the series in Season 4 and becoming more involved with Slough House, Emma is killed by Frank Harkness during the attack at the safe house. Her death hits Roddy especially hard, and his reaction afterwards is one of the quieter emotional moments in an episode otherwise filled with gunfire and bodies.

Louisa survives after being shot, but decides to leave Slough House again following everything that has happened. That means the team will be missing another familiar face when Season 7 begins.

What Happens to River in the Final Scene?

After surviving the attack, River learns that somebody has been staying at his grandfather David Cartwright’s house. He already knows who it is: Sid Baker, who returned this season after being presumed dead for years. River heads over and spots Sid inside. With the shower running upstairs, he starts getting things ready downstairs, initially making tea before deciding that wine might be a better idea.

Then River notices a crowbar sitting on the kitchen counter and moves it out of the way, but something is clearly wrong almost immediately. He starts looking at his injured hand, tries to carry on opening the wine and then suddenly struggles to breathe before collapsing to his knees. He attempts to call out to Sid but cannot get the words out, eventually falling completely to the floor as the episode cuts to black. And yes, that is really where they leave us.

Is River Cartwright Dead?

For now, River’s fate has deliberately been left unconfirmed. The finale strongly suggests that he has been poisoned through whatever was on the crowbar, with his wounded hand potentially allowing the substance into his system. We see him collapse and stop moving, but we do not see anybody confirm his death.

The brief Season 7 footage shown after the episode does not clear things up either. Catherine asks Lamb whether he has heard anything about River, while Lamb responds with one of his usual dark jokes about the afterlife. Rather than answering the question, it only makes the cliffhanger worse.

There is one important piece of information for anyone who knows Mick Herron’s novels: the final scene is adapted from the books, and River’s story continues beyond it. That does not guarantee the television series will follow exactly the same path, but it is worth knowing before declaring him dead.

Apple TV has already commissioned both Season 7 and Season 8, so Slow Horses itself is going nowhere. Whether Jack Lowden’s River makes it through that kitchen floor cliffhanger is the question the next season now has to answer.

For CultureCues, WHAT was that ending? Season 6 has been amazing, and we already cannot wait for Season 7, but they really made us suffer getting there. Emma’s death was a huge blow and Louisa is gone again, but River walking into that house somehow made the ending even worse. For a moment, it looked like we might actually get something nice between him and Sid… we should have known better. Jack Lowden is brilliant in those final minutes, especially as River slowly realises something is wrong, and cutting to black with him lying on the floor is cruel. Now we have to wait for Season 7 to find out if he is even alive. Thanks, Slow Horses. We’ll just be thinking about that ending for the next year.

All six seasons of Slow Horses are available to stream now on Apple TV. Seasons 7 and 8 have already been confirmed.

A24 has released the official trailer for Slayground, the new horror thriller from Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier, and this one has quite the setup. Cory Michael Smith stars as “Metal Mike” Graves, a performer working at a haunted attraction who wakes up on 24 October covered in blood and surrounded by his dead colleagues. He has no memory of what happened, but quickly becomes the prime suspect and escapes police custody as a manhunt begins.

Mike goes on the run trying to piece together what happened inside the attraction and prove he did not kill everyone around him. The problem is that the more he uncovers, the more the evidence appears to point back towards him.

The film was previously developed under the title October before becoming Slayground, taking its new name from the haunted attraction at the centre of the story. Saulnier both writes and directs, marking his return to horror after Green Room, alongside his more recent Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge.

Smith leads a cast that also includes Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, James Badge Dale, Stanley Simons, Stephen Root, Chris Sullivan, Young Mazino, Imogen Poots, Matty Matheson and Macon Blair. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have composed the score, which is another reason to keep an ear on this one when it arrives.

You can watch the official Slayground trailer below.

Video: Slayground | Official Teaser HD | A24 via YouTube

For CultureCues, this is definitely one we’ll be keeping an eye on. The teaser strikes the perfect balance of not giving too much away while still looking seriously creepy, and it has us hooked. It’s officially on our horror watchlist. Having Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross behind the score is another big plus. This really would have made the perfect Halloween movie, especially with the whole story kicking off on 24 October, but we’ll happily take it in January 2027.

Slayground opens in US cinemas on 29 January 2027. A UK release date has not yet been confirmed.

The Great British Bake Off returned for Dessert Week on Tuesday night, with the remaining bakers facing three pudding challenges before another contestant was asked to leave the tent. The episode began with a first for Bake Off, as the Signature challenge used staggered start times for eight self-saucing puddings. Gary was first to begin while Yannis had to wait until last, and it was Connie who made the biggest impression, earning a Hollywood Handshake for her chocolate orange self-saucing puddings.

The Technical brought back the Gingham Shrouded Pantry, with Nigella Lawson asking the bakers to make a bread and butter pudding using their own choice of flavours. Moyin finished last, Yannis came seventh and Gary took first place.

For the Showstopper, the bakers had to create a full trolley of retro desserts featuring at least three different puddings and a baked element. The tent was filled with everything from Black Forest Gateaux and trifles to pineapple upside-down cake, before the judges had to decide who had done enough to stay.

Who Left Bake Off During Dessert Week?

Yannis became the latest baker to leave The Great British Bake Off after struggling across Dessert Week. His retro British dessert trolley included a Black Forest Gateaux and sticky toffee pudding, but the judges found problems with both. His cream had split on the gateaux, while the sticky toffee pudding was described as too dense.

Image Credit: © Patch Dolan / Channel 4

After his elimination, Yannis said: “I grew up watching this programme and being here for five weeks is surreal. I will be very proud of that and it’s been absolutely wonderful.” He later described leaving as “bittersweet”, explaining that filming alongside his full-time work as a paediatric doctor, including 12-hour shifts and nights, had been exhausting.

Who Was Star Baker During Dessert Week?

Connie was named Star Baker after a week that began with a Hollywood Handshake for her Signature puddings. Her Showstopper was not perfect, with the judges finding some issues with her pineapple upside-down cake and apple and pear pie, but her performance across all three challenges was enough to put her at the top of the week.

Image Credit: © Patch Dolan / Channel 4

Gary also had a strong episode after winning the Technical, while Tom received particularly high praise for his cocktail-themed dessert trolley. Nigella was so impressed with his Mojito-layered pavlova that she told him she wanted the recipe.

For CultureCues, Dessert Week really put everyone through it. Connie getting a Hollywood Handshake and then ending the episode as Star Baker was lovely to see, while Yannis going home was such a shame. Hearing that he was doing all of this alongside 12-hour shifts and nights as a paediatric doctor is honestly wild, so getting this far is definitely something to be proud of. We’ll be watching again next week to see who can rise to the occasion.
