Mayor of Kingstown has confirmed when its fifth and final season will arrive, with Jeremy Renner returning as Mike McLusky for the last eight episodes of the Paramount+ crime drama. Season 5 will premiere on 15 January 2027, bringing the Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon-created series to an end after five seasons. The final run will be slightly shorter than previous seasons, consisting of eight episodes rather than the usual ten.
The new season picks up after the events of Season 4, with FBI agent Russell Hardy, played by David Morse, arriving in Kingstown in search of Callahan. His investigation also threatens to uncover Mike’s own secrets and disrupt the already fragile balance of power in the city.
Alongside Renner, the final season stars Edie Falco, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster and Morse. Necar Zadegan, Nichole Galicia and Lennie James will also return.
Paramount+ has also released a first look at the new episodes, showing Renner back as Mike ahead of the final season. Filming wrapped earlier this year, with Renner marking the end of production by thanking the cast, crew and viewers who had supported him throughout the series and during his recovery following his 2023 snowplough accident.
The decision to end Mayor of Kingstown with Season 5 came as something of a surprise, particularly after Dillon had previously spoken about plans that could have taken the story as far as seven seasons. Instead, January will begin the final chapter for Mike and Kingstown.
For CultureCues, we have been following Mayor of Kingstown for years, so knowing this is the final season is a little bittersweet. Jeremy Renner has carried so much of the series as Mike, and after everything the character has been through, we are really looking forward to seeing how they bring his story to an end. Eight episodes feels like it is going to fly by, but we’ll definitely be watching when it returns in January.
