JOIN THE CULTURECUES TEAM

Love film, television, music or pop culture? CultureCues is looking for new writers and contributors to join our growing independent entertainment publication.

Whether you’d like to contribute a one-off piece, pitch us occasionally or become a more regular contributor, we’re interested in hearing from people who want to write, review, report or create around the films, shows, music and cultural moments people are talking about.

CultureCues contributor opportunities are currently voluntary and unpaid. There are no fixed hours or minimum contribution requirements.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You don’t need years of professional journalism or media experience. We’re looking for people with good ideas, a genuine interest in entertainment and an enthusiasm for creating engaging, accurate content.

You might already write about film or television, be studying journalism, media, film or another creative subject, run your own social accounts, want to build your portfolio, or just love keeping up with what’s happening in film, TV, music and pop culture.

EDITORIAL WRITERS & REVIEWERS

Potential coverage includes:

  • Film, TV, streaming and music news
  • Reviews and recommendations
  • New releases, trailers and announcements
  • Features and opinion
  • Interviews
  • Pop culture and trending entertainment
  • Awards, festivals, screenings and live events

Contributors are encouraged to pitch ideas and subjects they are genuinely interested in.

SOCIAL & VIDEO CONTRIBUTORS

Prefer making a TikTok or Reel to writing an article? CultureCues is also looking for creators interested in entertainment content for TikTok, Instagram and other social platforms.

This could include recommendations, entertainment news, trailer reactions, reviews, interviews, street content, social graphics or other creative ideas. You could be comfortable on camera, prefer working behind the scenes, or enjoy a combination of both.

EVENTS, SCREENINGS & FESTIVAL COVERAGE

CultureCues covers screenings, festivals, interviews, live music and other entertainment events, with selected opportunities for contributors to represent the publication through reviews, interviews, social content and event coverage. Opportunities depend on location, availability, accreditation and editorial requirements and cannot be guaranteed.

HOW CONTRIBUTING WORKS

Contributors can pitch one-off ideas, contribute occasionally or become more regular contributors depending on their interests and availability. All work is reviewed by the CultureCues Editor before publication, with full contributor and submission guidelines provided to successful applicants.

In your email, please include:

  • A little about yourself and why you’d like to contribute to CultureCues
  • Where you’re based
  • The areas you’re most interested in covering
  • Whether you’re interested in writing, reviews, social/video content, interviews, events or a combination
  • Two or three article, video or content ideas you could see yourself creating for CultureCues
  • If applying as a writer or reviewer, at least one writing sample of approximately 500–1,000 words
  • Links to previous social, video or portfolio work, where relevant

Please include your application details in the body of your email. Writing samples can be attached as a document or shared via a link.

Previous professional or published experience isn’t essential. We’re interested in your ideas, knowledge, voice and ability to create engaging content. Writing samples can include published work, university or college work, your own blog or Substack, a portfolio piece or an unpublished example. Social and video applicants can also share TikToks, Reels, YouTube videos or other relevant work.

CultureCues contributor opportunities are voluntary and currently unpaid. Applicants must be aged 18 or over.
