Baywatch is officially heading back to the beach, with Sky releasing the trailer for the new 12-part series ahead of its UK and Ireland premiere in January 2027. Stephen Amell leads the reboot as Hobie Buchannon, now a Baywatch Captain following in the footsteps of his father Mitch Buchannon, famously played by David Hasselhoff in the original series. His life gets a little more complicated when his daughter Charlie Vale, played by Jessica Belkin, turns up wanting to continue the Buchannon family tradition and become a lifeguard herself.

The new trailer brings back plenty of what Baywatch became known for, from rescues along the Southern California coastline to relationships, rivalries and, yes, the famous slow-motion runs along the beach. The series will introduce a new team while keeping that connection to the original show, which first premiered in 1989 and ran for 11 seasons.

Shay Mitchell stars as Trina, with Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Noah Beck as Luke and Brooks Nader as Selene. Livvy Dunne will also make her acting debut as Grace, while two familiar faces from the original series are returning. David Chokachi will reprise his role as Cody Madison, with Erika Eleniak appearing again as Shauni McClain.

Matt Nix serves as showrunner and executive producer on the revival, with McG directing the premiere episode. Michael Berk, Greg Bonann and Doug Schwartz, who were involved with the original series, are also among the executive producers.

For CultureCues, we are slightly obsessed with this already. We have loved Stephen Amell since his Oliver Queen days on Arrow, so seeing him lead Baywatch is enough to have us watching, and then you add Shay Mitchell, who has basically been our ultimate girl crush since Pretty Little Liars. The trailer looks so much fun, we love that a couple of original cast members are coming back too, and we are really looking forward to seeing what this new version does with Baywatch. January cannot come quickly enough.

Baywatch premieres exclusively on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland in January 2027.
