This City Is Ours is officially back later this month, with the BBC confirming that Season 2 will arrive on Sunday 25 October. All eight episodes will be available immediately on BBC iPlayer, with the series also airing on BBC One on Sunday and Monday nights at 9pm from the same date.
James Nelson-Joyce returns as Michael Kavanagh alongside Hannah Onslow as Diana Williams, with the new season picking up after the events of the first series. Michael and Diana have barely arrived in Spain when they are pulled back in to answer questions about Ricardo’s death, while tensions continue to build among the remaining members of the gang in Liverpool.
The new trailer also gives us our first proper look at Shaun Evans as Ozzie Thompson, an old-school gangster from Ronnie’s era who has recently been released from prison and wants compensation from the firm. Álvaro Morte joins the cast as Felipe Guzman, a member of the Colombian cartel and Ricardo’s younger brother, who arrives following his brother’s murder at the end of Season 1.

Returning cast members include Jack McMullen as Jamie Phelan, Mike Noble as Banksey, Julie Graham as Elaine Phelan, Laura Aikman as Rachel Duffy, Kevin Harvey as Bobby Duffy, Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Cheryl Crawford, Darci Shaw as Melissa Sullivan, Adam Abbou as Freddie and Bobby Schofield as Bonehead. The second series was filmed in and around Liverpool, with additional filming taking place in Spain.
The first series launched in March 2025 and went on to receive BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Drama and Leading Actor for Nelson-Joyce. According to the BBC, it has averaged 6.2 million viewers to date, with the opening episode eventually reaching more than 8.3 million viewers and almost three million people streaming the finale before its BBC One transmission.
This City Is Ours was created by Stephen Butchard, who returns as lead writer, with Robbie O’Neill writing an additional episode. Saul Dibb returns as lead director alongside John Hayes and Chris Baugh, with Left Bank Pictures producing the eight-part series for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
For CultureCues, we loved the first series, so we are really looking forward to having This City Is Ours back. James Nelson-Joyce and Hannah Onslow were brilliant together, and Shaun Evans and Álvaro Morte are great additions to the cast. The trailer looks tense, the stakes are clearly high again, and with the full series dropping on iPlayer at once, we’ll probably end up binging the lot.
This City Is Ours Season 2 arrives on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on Sunday 25 October.
