Mike Flanagan’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie has officially arrived on Prime Video today, Wednesday 7 October, bringing the story to television for the first time. Summer H. Howell takes on the title role of Carrie White, with Samantha Sloyan playing her mother, Margaret, in a new contemporary version of King’s 1974 novel. Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer and also directs half of the series, bringing one of horror’s most familiar stories into a much longer format than its previous film adaptations.
How Many Episodes Are in Carrie on Prime Video?
There are eight episodes in Carrie, and Prime Video has released the entire season at once. Viewers do not need to wait for a weekly rollout, with Episodes 1 to 8 all available from Wednesday 7 October.

The full-season drop means anyone wanting to watch the story straight through can do so immediately. The new version follows Carrie through high school, a viral bullying scandal and the emergence of her telekinetic powers, with the extra running time allowing the series to spend more time on the events leading towards its infamous prom night.
What Is the Carrie Prime Video Release Schedule?
Because the complete season has launched together, there is no weekly Carrie release schedule to keep track of. All eight episodes became available on Prime Video on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, with the series streaming exclusively on the platform in more than 240 countries and territories. That makes Carrie an easy binge for anyone planning to watch the whole series quickly.
What Is the New Carrie Series About?
The series follows Carrie White, a teenage girl who has spent most of her life isolated at home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret. After the sudden death of her father forces her into public high school, Carrie has to deal with a world she has barely experienced before, including the pressure of fitting in and a viral bullying scandal that spreads through her community.

At the same time, mysterious telekinetic abilities begin to emerge. The series updates Carrie’s high school experience for the social-media age, where humiliation can spread well beyond the people who witness it firsthand, while spending more time on the relationships and choices surrounding her. The story still builds towards prom night, but the eight-part format allows the road there to be explored in much greater detail.
Who Is in the Carrie Cast?
Summer H. Howell leads the series as Carrie White after being chosen following a search that saw more than 1,000 actors read for the role. Samantha Sloyan stars as Margaret White, with Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy and Thalia Dudek as Emaline.

Amber Midthunder also stars as Miss Desjardin, with Matthew Lillard playing Principal Grayle. Mike Flanagan writes and executive produces the series and directs four episodes, while Stephen King is also involved as an executive producer on the Amazon MGM Studios production.
Is Carrie Based on the Stephen King Book?
Yes. The series is based on Stephen King’s debut novel Carrie, which was first published in 1974. The story has been adapted several times since, most famously in Brian De Palma’s 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, but this is the first time the novel has been adapted as a television series.

The new version keeps the central story of Carrie White while bringing it into a modern setting and expanding the characters around her. With eight episodes rather than a feature-length running time, Flanagan has more room to explore Carrie’s home life, school experience and the events that gradually lead to the story’s devastating conclusion.
For CultureCues, Carrie has been one of our most anticipated horror series of the year, so we are very happy it is finally here. Mike Flanagan taking on Stephen King is such an exciting combination, and the cast looks fantastic, with Summer H. Howell already looking brilliant as Carrie. The eight-episode format should also give the story much more room to build before prom night, which is one of the things we have been most looking forward to. We have been waiting for this one for months, and we cannot wait to start watching.
All eight episodes of Carrie are streaming now exclusively on Prime Video.
