ITV has released a new set of first-look images from Adultery, its upcoming six-part drama starring Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai as two married parents whose attraction to one another threatens both of their families. Cooper plays Tom Kirkman alongside Garai as Beth Brookes, with Matthew McNulty starring as Beth’s husband Neil and Shelley Conn as Tom’s wife Hannah. The new images also introduce Leila Khan as Tom’s 15-year-old daughter Jess and Johnny Sanpher as Beth’s son Ollie, whose own teenage relationship unknowingly brings their parents into one another’s lives.

What Is Adultery About?

Created by BAFTA-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst, whose credits include Fool Me Once and Brassic, Adultery follows two families connected through Jess and Ollie, who have fallen completely for one another. Things become considerably more complicated when Tom meets Ollie’s mother Beth and the pair begin an intense affair of their own.

ITV describes the six-part series as “scandalous” and “provocative”, with the story exploring the consequences of Tom and Beth’s relationship as they risk their marriages and family lives. Alongside the central affair, the drama will also look at class, grief and social media as both families are pulled into the fallout.

The official synopsis reads: “Adultery is naturally authentic and bristling with passion as it focuses upon two families and messy complications.”

Who Is in the Adultery Cast?

Dominic Cooper, known for Mamma Mia! and Preacher, stars as Tom Kirkman, with Atonement and The Hour star Romola Garai playing Beth Brookes. Matthew McNulty appears as Beth’s husband Neil, while Shelley Conn plays Tom’s wife Hannah.

Leila Khan, known for Heartstopper, stars as Tom’s daughter Jess, with Johnny Sanpher playing Beth’s son Ollie. Andrew Knott also appears as Dave, the ex-husband of Beth’s recently deceased best friend, with James Murray and Charley Webb playing Tom’s brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Leah Kirkman.

When Is Adultery on ITV?

Adultery will premiere on ITV and STV in October 2026, although an exact launch date has not yet been announced. The six-part series comes from writer Danny Brocklehurst and is produced by Poison Pen Studios.

It looks intense and emotional, with Tom and Beth’s affair set to have serious consequences for both families as the story develops. Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai already look like a strong pairing, and with the added complication of their children being in a relationship too, there is plenty here for us to get invested in. We will definitely be watching when this one arrives in October.
