Marble Hall Murders has arrived on the BBC, bringing Lesley Manville back as editor-turned-sleuth Susan Ryeland for one final mystery. The new series premiered on BBC One on Saturday, 26 September, with all six episodes also released together on BBC iPlayer from 6am that morning. Tim McMullan returns alongside Manville as fictional detective Atticus Pünd, with the series adapting Anthony Horowitz’s third Susan Ryeland novel.

There are six episodes of Marble Hall Murders, and viewers do not have to wait to find out how the mystery ends. The complete series is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. Marble Hall Murders is also airing weekly on BBC One. Episode 1 premiered at 9.35pm on Saturday, 26 September, with the remaining episodes expected to continue on Saturday evenings.

What Happens in Marble Hall Murders?

Marble Hall Murders picks up with Susan Ryeland being hired to work with troubled young writer Eliot Crace on a continuation of the Atticus Pünd novels. The job soon pulls Susan into another real-life murder investigation, and this time she unexpectedly finds herself among the suspects. At the same time, the story inside Eliot’s novel follows Atticus Pünd on the island of Corfu, where he becomes involved in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont. As Susan investigates in the real world and Pünd searches for answers inside the fictional mystery, the two cases begin to develop alongside one another.

Episode 2 sees Susan looking into Eliot’s belief that his grandmother was murdered, while Episode 3 takes her investigation to Jonathan Crace in London as Pünd visits Elmer Waysmith in Crete. Things become even more serious in Episode 4 when Eliot is deliberately hit by a car and Susan becomes the main suspect. By the final two episodes, Susan and Pünd are both closing in on the truth, with Episode 6 bringing the two mysteries to their conclusion.

Who Is in the Marble Hall Murders Cast?

Lesley Manville returns as Susan Ryeland, with Tim McMullan once again playing Atticus Pünd. They are joined by Jamie Blackley as the troubled young writer at the centre of Susan’s latest job, alongside Mark Bonnar, Daniel Cerqueira, Patricia Hodge, Harry Lloyd, Rupert Penry-Jones, Anneika Rose, Danny Sapani and Zubin Varla.

The series is written by Anthony Horowitz and directed by Rebecca Gatward, who previously worked on Moonflower Murders. Suzanne McAuley produces, with Jill Green serving as executive producer for Eleventh Hour Films.

Is Marble Hall Murders the Final Susan Ryeland Series?

Marble Hall Murders is being billed as the final instalment in the Susan Ryeland mystery trilogy, following Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders. It is based on Horowitz’s third Susan Ryeland novel, published in 2025. That does not necessarily mean Susan and Pünd can never return, however. Horowitz has previously suggested that he could write a fourth novel, tentatively titled Mile End Murders, while McMullan has also said he hopes Marble Hall Murders will not be Atticus Pünd’s final adventure.

For CultureCues, we have loved the unusual story-within-a-story format of these mysteries, so getting Susan Ryeland and Atticus Pünd back for another case is an easy one for our watchlist. Lesley Manville and Tim McMullan are such a good pairing across the two sides of the story, and having all six episodes sitting on BBC iPlayer makes resisting a weekend binge particularly difficult. It might be the end of the trilogy for now, but we are definitely hoping Susan and Pünd still have another mystery left in them.
