Could we BE any more excited? Friends is officially returning to Channel 4, with all ten seasons of the sitcom heading back to its original UK broadcaster from January 2027. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler and Joey will once again be available to watch for free through Channel 4 and E4, following a new deal between Channel 4 and Warner Bros. An exact date in January has not yet been announced, but it marks the first time Friends has been broadcast on Channel 4 since 2011.

The sitcom originally began in 1994 and ran for ten seasons, following the six friends through relationships, careers, weddings, break-ups and an enormous amount of time spent sitting in Central Perk. It became one of the biggest comedies on television and has continued finding new audiences long after its final episode aired.

Polly Scates, Channel 4’s Head of Acquisitions, said the broadcaster was “thrilled to welcome Friends home to Channel 4”, while Director of Content Strategy Kiran Nataraja described the sitcom as a long-time audience favourite that continues to attract new viewers.

For CultureCues, we LOVE Friends, so yes, we are ridiculously happy about this. It is one of those shows we can put on at any time, quote constantly and somehow still end up watching five episodes when we only meant to watch one. There is something so nostalgic about seeing it back on Channel 4 too, because it instantly takes us back to coming home from school and putting Friends on. And with all ten seasons available for free, we will be rewatching the whole thing in January… AGAIN.
