Eight years after Crazy Rich Asians became a huge cinema hit, the sequel fans have been waiting for is finally happening, but this time as a television series. HBO has officially ordered an eight-episode Crazy Rich Asians drama that will continue the story after the events of the 2018 film, with Henry Golding and Constance Wu reprising their roles as Nick and Rachel.
Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Kevin Kwan, Jon M. Chu, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson also returning behind the scenes. Production is expected to begin in 2027, although HBO has not yet announced when the series will premiere.
Who Is Returning for the Crazy Rich Asians Sequel Series?
Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Ronny Chieng are all confirmed as series regulars, with Michelle Yeoh returning in a recurring role. HBO has not yet announced any other returning cast members.

Lim described the project as the sequel fans have been waiting for, saying the move to television means they now have eight episodes to spend with the characters and world created by Kevin Kwan. The series will once again be based on Kwan’s bestselling books, with the extra running time giving the team far more space than a single film sequel would have allowed.
Kwan also said fans had been patiently waiting for the next chapter, while director Jon M. Chu joked that he has spent the past eight years being asked when the sequel was coming. After years of speculation, that question finally has an answer.
When Will the Crazy Rich Asians Series Be Released?
There is no release date yet, but production is scheduled to begin in 2027. The series will consist of eight one-hour episodes and is being co-produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television.
The original film became one of the biggest romantic comedies of its era, and the new series will pick up from where that story left off rather than rebooting it. With the original stars and much of the creative team coming back, this will effectively become the long-awaited sequel fans have been asking for since 2018.
At CultureCues, we LOVE Crazy Rich Asians, so this was such a welcome surprise because we honestly were not expecting the story to come back like this. We assumed that if anything happened it would probably be another film, so finding out we are getting an eight-episode series with Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh all returning is even better. Having Adele Lim back as showrunner is another big win, and with so much of the original team returning, we’re hoping the series will be every bit as gorgeous as the film. After eight years of waiting, we cannot wait to see what they do with it.
The Crazy Rich Asians sequel series will begin production in 2027.
