Channel 4 has confirmed an October launch date for its new crime drama Pierre, starring David Harewood as a West London duty solicitor whose investigation into the suspicious death of a young client brings him up against institutional police corruption. The six-part series will begin on Monday, 5 October. Harewood leads a cast that also includes Michele Austin, Jason Flemyng and Dean-Charles Chapman.

When Does Pierre Start on Channel 4?

Pierre begins at 9pm on Monday, 5 October on Channel 4. Viewers who do not want to wait for the remaining episodes will also be able to stream the full six-part series once Episode 1 has aired.

The drama was filmed on location in West London and comes from writers Roy Williams and John Donnelly. Sarmad Masud serves as lead director, while Jo Johnson produces the series for The Lighthouse.

What Is Pierre About?

Harewood plays Pierre, a West London duty solicitor trying to balance the pressures of his work, his personal life and mounting financial difficulties. His life becomes more complicated when he begins looking into the suspicious death of Michael, a young Black client. As Pierre questions the police account of Michael and their attempts to portray him as a criminal, his investigation begins exposing a wider network of corruption.

The official synopsis reads: “As Pierre challenges the police’s portrayal of Michael as a criminal, he unravels a chilling web of institutional corruption. When you come at the system, the system comes at you…”

Harewood described Pierre as a “bright, flawed” character who is deeply passionate about his work, adding that he hopes viewers respond to him as strongly as he did when first reading the scripts.

Who Is in the Pierre Cast?

David Harewood takes the title role, with Michele Austin playing Charlotte Manners, Pierre’s joint managing partner at their solicitors’ firm. Jason Flemyng stars as DS Ronnie Miller, Pierre’s best friend. Dean-Charles Chapman plays Danny Headman, Nikkita Chadha stars as Alecia Khan, Christopher Fairbank appears as Sean Lambert and Sara Powell plays Pierre’s wife, Celeste Jeffreys. Cherrelle Skeete joins the cast as Brenda Dean, while newcomers Dylan Ennis and Ezrae Maye play Eli Jeffreys and Michael respectively.

Who Created Pierre?

Pierre is co-written by Roy Williams and John Donnelly, with the series marking playwright Williams’ move into writing a full television drama series. The pair said duty solicitors provided a rich starting point for the story, describing them as overlooked figures within the legal profession who can be called into unpredictable situations at any time. Harewood also serves as an executive producer alongside Jo Johnson, while Sarmad Masud directs. The series is produced by The Lighthouse.

For CultureCues, the trailer has already sold us on Pierre. It looks tense and gripping, and even the music running through the trailer helps give it that uneasy feeling from the start. We also really like that the series is digging into police corruption and showing a darker side of the system. Crime dramas so often have us rooting for the police to crack the case, so having Pierre questioning the people who are supposed to be investigating it gives this one a really interesting angle. David Harewood looks excellent in the role, especially as he starts challenging what he is being told and looking into Michael’s death himself. We cannot wait to see how the full six-part series unfolds in October. Consider this case officially on our watchlist.
