ITV’s new crime thriller The Blame is officially underway, with Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth leading a six-part murder investigation. The series premiered on Sunday, 20 September at 9pm on ITV1, and STV for viewers in Scotland, with Episode 2 following tonight. Viewers who do not want to wait can already watch the complete six-episode series on ITVX.

Based on Charlotte Langley’s novel, The Blame stars Keegan as DI Emma Crane and Booth as DI Tom Radley, two detectives investigating the murder of 16-year-old figure skater Sophie Madsen. What initially appears to be a tragic death soon leads them towards lies, institutional cover-ups and corruption much closer to home.

There are six episodes in The Blame, with ITV airing two episodes each week on Sunday and Monday evenings at 9pm.

What Is The Blame About?

The story begins with the death of teenage figure skater Sophie Madsen, played by Matilda Freeman. Emma and Tom are tasked with investigating what happened, but the case soon begins exposing problems within their own police team as they uncover a wider web of secrets and cover-ups. Emma’s determination to find the truth puts her at odds with fellow detectives and leaves her facing difficult choices about how far she is willing to go for justice. Tom, meanwhile, is an ambitious detective whose instincts and loyalties are tested as the investigation develops.

Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth lead the cast alongside Ian Hart as DCI Kenneth Walker, Gavin Spokes as DC Joel Stevens, Josh Bolt as DC Douglas James, Joe Armstrong as Kyle Frasier, Nathan Mensah as DC Lewis Brimah and Ceallach Spellman as PC Callum Drummond.

The wider cast includes Vikash Bhai, Suanna Braun, Jamie Kenna, Anya McKenna-Bruce, Karen Ascoe, Nigel Boyle, Aaron Anthony, Annabelle Dowler, Grace Saif and Cache Vanderpuye.

Where Can You Watch The Blame?

New episodes of The Blame air at 9pm on Sundays and Mondays on ITV1 and STV for Scottish viewers. For viewers who would rather watch ahead, all six episodes are already available on ITVX, meaning the full mystery, including the ending, can be streamed now rather than waiting until the ITV1 finale on 5 October.

For CultureCues, this is exactly the kind of crime drama we love. Michelle Keegan has been brilliant in similar roles before, and we have loved pretty much everything we have seen her in, so we were always going to watch this one. Douglas Booth and the rest of the cast give us even more reason to tune in. The only problem is that all six episodes are already sitting on ITVX, so sticking to the Sunday and Monday schedule might be ambitious. We may have to binge the lot and crack the case ourselves.
