Apple TV has released the first trailer for Nocturne, a new 10-part crime drama starring Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham. Based on Lars Kepler’s bestselling novel The Sandman, the series follows former soldier turned homicide detective Jonah Lynn, played by Schreiber, whose attempt at a quieter life in Western Pennsylvania is shattered when serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Graham, targets the town and those closest to him. Beetz stars as FBI agent Saga Bauer, Jonah’s surrogate daughter, who becomes part of the increasingly dangerous hunt for Walter.
What Is Nocturne About?
After years working the streets of Philadelphia, Jonah leaves the city hoping to start again somewhere quieter. That changes when Jurek Walter begins targeting the town and Jonah’s family, drawing him back into a dangerous investigation.
The search for Walter’s final missing victim eventually leads Jonah to send Saga directly against the killer, raising the question of how much he is prepared to risk to stop him. The trailer gives an early look at Graham’s Jurek and the tension surrounding Saga’s involvement as the investigation closes in.

Who Is in the Nocturne Cast?
Liev Schreiber leads the series as Jonah Lynn, with Zazie Beetz playing FBI agent Saga Bauer and Stephen Graham taking on the role of serial killer Jurek Walter. The wider ensemble includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan and Gary Carr. Schreiber also serves as an executive producer on the series, with Beetz executive producing through her Sleepy Poppy production company.
When Does Nocturne Start on Apple TV?
Nocturne premieres globally on Apple TV on Friday, 30 October, with the first two episodes released together. The remaining episodes will then arrive every Friday, with the 10-episode season running through 25 December 2026.
Is Nocturne Based on a Book?
The series is based on The Sandman by Lars Kepler, the pen name used by authors Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril. The novel forms part of their Joona Linna crime series, which currently spans 10 books and has sold around 20 million copies worldwide.
Nocturne has been created for television by Rowan Joffé, who also writes, executive produces and co-showruns alongside John Hlavin. Tim Van Patten directs the opening two episodes and also serves as an executive producer.
For CultureCues, this trailer has absolutely put Nocturne on our watchlist. Stephen Graham as a serial killer was always going to get our attention, and he already looks seriously unsettling opposite Liev Schreiber and Zazie Beetz. The search for a missing victim gives the series a strong mystery to get invested in, and with 10 episodes there should be plenty of time for that tension to build. We are very ready for this one.
