Before Jason Voorhees became one of horror’s most recognisable killers, there was tragedy at Camp Crystal Lake. Sky has released the official trailer for Crystal Lake, A24’s new eight-part prequel series expanding the Friday the 13th universe.

Linda Cardellini leads the series as Pamela Voorhees, with the story taking place before the events of the original 1980 film. Created by IT: Welcome to Derry and Warrior writer Brad Caleb Kane, the horror drama will explore Pamela’s grief following the death of her son Jason and the secrets that begin to emerge when two strangers start investigating her past.

What Is Crystal Lake About?

Crystal Lake follows Pamela almost a year after her young son Jason drowned in the town lake. Still struggling with his death, her life begins to unravel when two strangers arrive at her door and start asking questions about her past, setting off a series of disturbing events across the town.

The series will expand the mythology surrounding Pamela, Jason and Camp Crystal Lake while remaining within the established Friday the 13th universe. Rather than beginning with the masked killer audiences already know, the prequel goes back to the family tragedy and events that came before him.

Who Stars in Crystal Lake?

Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela Voorhees, with Callum Vinson playing the young Jason Voorhees and Zachary Branch appearing as the adult Jason.

The cast also includes William Catlett as Levon Brooks, Devin Kessler as Briana Brooks, Cameron Scoggins as Dorf, Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace, Nick Cordileone as Ralph, Joy Suprano as Rita, Danielle Kotch as Claudette, Christopher Denham as Theodore Landau and Phoenix Parnevik as Barry.

Brad Caleb Kane created and wrote the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. A24 produces alongside original Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller and Horror, Inc.

How Many Episodes Are in Crystal Lake?

Crystal Lake consists of eight hour-long episodes. There has been no announcement of a second season at this stage, with the first eight episodes forming the initial run of the prequel series.

When Is Crystal Lake on Sky and NOW?

Crystal Lake will be available exclusively on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland in October 2026. An exact premiere date has not been announced yet.

The October arrival feels particularly fitting for a new chapter in the Friday the 13th universe, with the series joining Sky’s autumn horror line-up just in time for Halloween viewing.

The official trailer gives the first proper look at Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and the mystery surrounding Jason’s death, while showing the darker side of Crystal Lake beginning to emerge.

Kane has said the series was made by people who grew up with the franchise and wanted to recreate the experience of watching the original films, while telling a new story within the established canon.

For CultureCues, we love the idea of going back to Crystal Lake and getting more of Pamela’s story before Jason became the figure everyone knows. We are big Friday the 13th fans, and Linda Cardellini looks brilliant in the trailer. We also love that the series is staying within the established canon and the same universe rather than completely reinventing the story. It is dark, tense and gives us just enough blood and horror to know this is going to be right up our street. We are already very ready to find out what happened to Pamela and how everything started. Horror in October? Absolutely.
