Faye Marsay will lead ITV’s new six-part police thriller Code Zero, with filming now underway in Cardiff and across South Wales. She stars alongside Sekou Diaby in the new drama, which follows a police team caught up in the fallout from a bank robbery and a high-stakes investigation. The series comes from writer and creator James Hall, whose credits include Death in Paradise and Return to Paradise, and is produced by Two Brothers Pictures, the company behind The Tourist, The Assassin and Fleabag.

What Is Code Zero About?

Code Zero begins with Police Sergeant Laura Collier showing new recruit Cal Walters the ropes, only for their first day together to take a terrifying turn when they become caught up in a carefully planned bank robbery. During the incident, Cal is forced to make a “Code Zero” call, the most urgent alert an officer can send when they are in immediate danger. That call sets off a race to find him and recover the stolen money, while Laura and the wider team are drawn into an investigation with serious consequences for everyone involved.

ITV describes the series as a fast-moving police thriller built around the aftermath of a robbery that does not go according to plan, with the central investigation becoming increasingly personal for Laura.

Who Is in the Code Zero Cast?

Faye Marsay leads the series as Laura Collier, with Sekou Diaby playing new recruit Cal Walters. The wider cast includes Sion Daniel Young as Darrell Haiton, Brendan Coyle as Phil Baynes, Rachel Shenton as Gemma Chapman, Aneurin Barnard as Ferdie Kestevan, Anthony Welsh as Ed Collier and Steven Cree as Doyle.

Also joining the series are Libby Mai as Twitch, Adam Fidusiewicz as Ivan, Pooky Quesnel as Leanne Baynes, Kerim Hassan as Charlie Briggs, Christine Adams as Commander Harker, Vikash Bhai as DI Anderson, Kevin Eldon as Terry Underwood, Martin Trenaman as Roy Prescott, Steven Meo as Simon Peters and Lorraine Burroughs as Trisha Walters.

Who Is Behind Code Zero?

James Hall has created and written the six-part series, with Ashley Way directing. Hall said he had always wanted to make an action-packed crime thriller and described working with Two Brothers Pictures on the project as a “delight”. The production company has previously worked on The Tourist, The Assassin and Fleabag. Hall also serves as an executive producer alongside Jack Williams, Harry Williams, Sarah Hammond, Daisy Mount and Alex Mercer.

For CultureCues, Code Zero already sounds like one to watch. A bank robbery, a desperate Code Zero call and a police team racing to work out what really happened is a pretty compelling way to kick things off, and the cast is seriously strong. Consider this one officially under investigation.
