Ted Lasso returned to Apple TV this summer for Season 4, bringing Ted back to London and giving him a very different challenge as coach of Richmond’s women’s team. Ten episodes later, the season has now come to an end, and naturally the big question is whether we are going to get more.
Season 4 introduced the Lady Greyhounds, saw Ted trying to build support for the team and brought Tanya Reynolds into the series as assistant coach Alice Chilton. By the finale, several characters were heading in new directions and there was certainly enough left open for the story to continue.
Will There Be a Ted Lasso Season 5?
As things stand, Ted Lasso Season 5 has not been officially announced by Apple TV. The Season 4 finale has now aired, but there has been no formal renewal or cancellation from the streamer.

There are, however, some very encouraging signs. Speaking ahead of Season 4 in July, Apple TV executive Matt Cherniss was asked whether work had begun on Season 5 and replied: “Jason’s still hard at work on season four, and I know he’s looking to jump into the next season soon, but to my knowledge, I don’t think we’ve gotten started on it yet.”
That is not an official renewal, but Sudeikis looking to move on to “the next season” is a pretty big hint that there could be more to come. The Season 4 finale is also described as a “Season Finale” rather than a “Series Finale”, although again, that does not confirm that Apple has formally ordered more episodes.
Jason Sudeikis Has Talked About a Three-Season Arc
There is another reason to be hopeful about the future of Ted Lasso. Jason Sudeikis has spoken about planning the story of Richmond’s women’s team as a three-season arc, following the original three-season run centred on the men’s team between 2020 and 2023. If that plan remains in place, Season 4 could be the beginning of another three-season story rather than a standalone return. That would potentially take the series through Seasons 5 and 6, although neither has been officially confirmed by Apple TV.
There also appears to be interest from the newer cast in continuing. Tanya Reynolds and Abbie Hern, who play Alice Chilton and Gemma, have spoken about the possibilities for their characters after the Season 4 finale, including their hope of seeing more of Alice and Gemma’s history together at Arsenal.
What Could Ted Lasso Season 5 Be About?
Spoilers for the Ted Lasso Season 4 finale follow.
The finale leaves several major stories open. Rebecca proposes to Matthijs and he accepts, Roy is heading to Chelsea to coach the team, and Ted steps down as head coach of the Lady Greyhounds. Alice is promoted after Ted’s departure, putting her in charge of the team going forward. That means a fifth season could continue the women’s team story under Alice and follow what happens after Ted steps away from the role. Roy’s move to Chelsea also opens up another storyline away from Richmond, and Rebecca’s engagement gives the series more to follow in her personal life.

There is no official Season 5 synopsis at this stage, so exactly how those stories would continue remains unknown. With Sudeikis having discussed a longer arc for the women’s team, though, the Season 4 finale leaves plenty of unfinished business if the series does return.
When Could Ted Lasso Season 5 Be Released?
There is currently no release date for Ted Lasso Season 5 because Apple TV has not officially renewed the series. The gap between previous seasons has varied considerably. Seasons 1 and 2 arrived in 2020 and 2021, with Season 3 following in 2023, before the show returned three years later for Season 4 in 2026.
For CultureCues, we really hope this is not the end of Ted Lasso. Season 4 gave the show a whole new team to follow, and after spending ten episodes getting to know the Lady Greyhounds, we definitely want to see what happens next. Jason Sudeikis talking about a three-season arc for the women’s team is a very promising sign too, and the comments from Apple make it sound like there could still be more to come. Nothing is official for now, but we’ll be keeping everything crossed for Season 5.
