Netflix has added four more names to the cast of This Summer Will Be Different, its upcoming 10-part adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestselling romance novel. Malin Akerman, Megan Follows, Nadine Bhabha and Matias Lucas have joined the series. They join previously announced leads Sophie Nélisse as Lucy, Roby Attal as Felix and Francesca Reale as Bridget.
Who Is Joining the This Summer Will Be Different Cast?
Malin Akerman will play Aunt Stacy, while Megan Follows joins as Cheryl, Nadine Bhabha plays Farah and Matias Lucas will appear as Carter.
Follows’ casting is a particularly nice fit for the Prince Edward Island-set story. She famously played Anne Shirley in the 1985 adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, with Carley Fortune herself previously explaining that she first fell in love with Prince Edward Island through L.M. Montgomery’s novel before visiting the island with her best friend in her 20s.
Bhabha also reunites with Sophie Nélisse after the pair appeared together in Heated Rivalry. The wider cast includes Jordan Rodrigues as Miles Lam, Jude Wilson as Zach, Natalie Brown as Christine, James Tupper as Ken, Celia Owen as Joy and Tom Barnett as Glenn.
What Is This Summer Will Be Different About?
The series is based on Fortune’s novel of the same name and follows Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love across several summers on Prince Edward Island.

The complication is that the man she falls for is Felix, her best friend Bridget’s brother and the one person she was never supposed to get involved with. The story moves between Toronto and PEI, with friendship, romance and the island itself playing a major part in Lucy’s life over the years.
Sophie Nélisse leads as Lucy, with Roby Attal playing Felix and Francesca Reale starring as Bridget.
When Will This Summer Will Be Different Be Released?
Netflix has not announced a release date for This Summer Will Be Different yet. The 10-episode series is currently filming in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island.
Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart created the adaptation, with Karen Maine, Clark, Stewart, Carley Fortune, Jennifer Kawaja and Elise Cousineau serving as executive producers. Maine, Jasmin Mozaffari and Fab Filippo are directing across the 10 episodes.
For CultureCues, there is a lot to like about this one already. Megan Follows joining a Prince Edward Island-set story after Anne of Green Gables is such a nice touch, and we are also very excited for the Heated Rivalry reunion with Sophie Nélisse and Nadine Bhabha. We are big fans of Carley Fortune’s books too, so we are really looking forward to seeing This Summer Will Be Different brought to the screen.
This Summer Will Be Different is coming to Netflix, with a release date still to be announced.
