The Celebrity Traitors delivered three dramatic departures during its penultimate episode on Thursday 29 October, with Joanne McNally banished, Sharon Rooney murdered and James Acaster exposed as a Traitor following a surprising roundtable confession. With just seven contestants remaining, the BBC reality series is now heading into its grand finale tonight, Friday 30 October, at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Thursday’s episode picked up directly from last week’s cliffhanger, with King Kenny holding the deciding vote between Joanne McNally and Sharon Rooney. He ultimately chose Joanne, who became the latest Faithful to be wrongly banished, much to the frustration of Claudia Winkleman. An emotional Joanne revealed she was Faithful, before explaining through her tears that she was also premenstrual, bringing a little humour to an otherwise sad exit. Things only got worse for the Faithfuls when Sharon was revealed as the Traitors’ next murder victim, meaning two innocent contestants had departed before the game had even got going. And oh no, not our Scottish gal Sharon! We were rooting for her to go all the way, but making it to the penultimate episode was still a brilliant run. She absolutely smashed it, even if those pesky Traitors did finally manage to murder her.

However, the tables soon began to turn when Michael Sheen started piecing together the circumstances surrounding Ross Kemp’s murder in plain sight. His suspicions fell on James Acaster and Maya Jama, with Leigh-Anne Pinnock also beginning to question Maya’s behaviour. Maya certainly didn’t help herself by accidentally raising a toast to “killing” before hurriedly correcting herself to “banishment”. Not exactly the most convincing cover-up from someone trying to avoid suspicion.

The biggest moment came during the roundtable when Acaster, who had remained relatively quiet throughout the discussion, admitted that he had been recruited as a Traitor and had never wanted the role. His confession effectively sealed his fate, with the group voting to banish him and finally securing a victory for the Faithfuls.

But Michael wasn’t finished playing detective. Before the episode ended, he warned his fellow contestants that if he was murdered overnight, they should remember Maya’s behaviour at the roundtable. After spending much of the series avoiding serious suspicion, Maya suddenly found herself firmly in the spotlight.

Who Is Left in The Celebrity Traitors Final?

Maya Jama and King Kenny are now the two remaining Traitors, facing five Faithfuls: Michael Sheen, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, James Blunt, Sebastian Croft and Romesh Ranganathan. However, with the Traitors still able to carry out another murder, not everyone is guaranteed to make it to the final confrontation.

Tonight’s extended 80-minute finale will decide whether the Faithfuls can uncover the remaining Traitors and claim the prize money for charity, or whether Maya and Kenny can deceive their way to victory. The episode will be followed by The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, hosted by Ed Gamble.

For CultureCues, what a turnaround for the Faithfuls! After spending much of the series confidently banishing innocent people, Michael Sheen has finally started asking the right questions, and Maya’s previously comfortable position in the castle is now under serious threat. James Acaster also managed to pull a Richard E Grant by openly admitting he was a Traitor, effectively handing the Faithfuls a victory at the roundtable. But with one final murder still to come, we’re not ruling out another disastrous decision before the winners are crowned. Cloaks at the ready, bring on the finale!

The Celebrity Traitors finale airs tonight, Friday 30 October, at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
