The Split universe has expanded, with new spin-off The Split Up now underway on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The six-part drama moves the action from London to Manchester and follows Kishan Law, a British South Asian family-run firm specialising in high-net-worth divorce cases. Ritu Arya leads the cast as Aria Kishan alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar, Aysha Kala, Arian Nik and Danny Ashok.

How Many Episodes Are in The Split Up?

There are six hour-long episodes of The Split Up. The series airs at 9pm on Sunday and Monday nights on BBC One, with the finale scheduled for Monday, 5 October. All six episodes are also available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

What Is The Split Up About?

Set in Manchester’s high-net-worth divorce world, the series follows the Kishan family and their law firm. Aria is preparing to take over from her father Dhruv, but following the death of her mother, he begins questioning whether she should take on the responsibility alone.

Aria is also preparing to marry her long-term partner Neal, with their personal and professional lives closely connected. Things become more complicated when former flame Luke arrives unexpectedly in Manchester, while Aria and her siblings Maya and Kav deal with problems of their own.

Ritu Arya stars as Aria, with Sanjeev Bhaskar as Dhruv, Aysha Kala as Maya, Arian Nik as Kav and Danny Ashok as Neal. Dimitri Leonidas plays Luke, while the cast also includes Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shalini Peiris and Tom Forbes, with Jameela Jamil, Lenny Henry and Jane Horrocks among the familiar faces appearing in the series.

How Is The Split Up Connected to The Split?

The Split Up is set in the same world as Abi Morgan’s The Split, but introduces a new family, law firm and city rather than continuing the story of the Defoes. Ursula Rani Sarma created the new series from characters and a story based on Morgan’s original drama, with Morgan also serving as an executive producer.

The familiar mix of divorce cases, relationships and family problems remains, this time centred on the Kishans and Manchester’s legal world.

For CultureCues, we loved The Split, so we were always going to give this new chapter a watch. Moving the story to Manchester and introducing the Kishans gives the spin-off its own identity, while Ritu Arya and Sanjeev Bhaskar lead a really strong cast. The first episode already has us hooked, so we are looking forward to seeing where the family, the cases and all the personal drama go next. Safe to say, we are not ready to settle this one just yet.
