Gizmo is officially back. Warner Bros has released the first teaser for Gremlins 3, giving fans their first glimpse at the Mogwai’s return to the big screen while confirming that the long-awaited sequel has moved to a new 2028 release date. The very short teaser keeps things simple, focusing on a grey bag as something inside begins to stir before Gizmo slowly emerges. It does not reveal anything about the story, but after more than three decades since Gremlins 2: The New Batch arrived in 1990, seeing Gizmo again is enough to make the comeback feel very real.
When Is Gremlins 3 Released?
Gremlins 3 will now be released in cinemas on 6 October 2028. The film had previously been expected in November 2027, meaning fans have a longer wait than originally planned. Warner Bros has not revealed further plot details yet, and it is also currently unclear whether Zach Galligan will return as Billy Peltzer. Galligan did react to the teaser online with a pair of eyes emoji, which should at least give longtime fans something to speculate about while they wait.
Who Is Making Gremlins 3?
Chris Columbus, who wrote the original 1984 film, is returning to direct and produce the third movie, with Steven Spielberg also back as a producer. Hannah Marks is writing the screenplay based on an original draft by Columbus, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directing duo behind Final Destination: Bloodlines.
The original Gremlins, directed by Joe Dante, followed Billy after he was given Mogwai Gizmo along with two very important rules: never get him wet and never feed him after midnight. Those rules were, of course, broken, unleashing the Gremlins on his town. The film was followed by Gremlins 2: The New Batch in 1990.
For CultureCues, this one feels especially exciting. Gremlins was such a big part of our childhood and we have watched it more times than we could count, so the idea that we are finally getting Gremlins 3 after all this time is a little hard to believe. Gizmo is still ridiculously cute, this first little glimpse of him was adorable and honestly enough to get us excited on its own. We cannot wait to see more, find out what the story looks like and properly welcome Gizmo back to the big screen. We’re ready for the mayhem – just don’t feed our excitement after midnight.
