Brad Pitt is officially back as Cliff Booth, with Netflix releasing the first full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth alongside confirmation of both its cinema and streaming release dates. Directed by David Fincher from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino, the film picks up with Cliff in 1977, eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Before arriving on Netflix just in time for Christmas, the film will receive an exclusive global IMAX release.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will begin an exclusive two-week global IMAX run on 25 November before arriving on Netflix on 23 December, giving viewers the chance to see David Fincher and Brad Pitt’s new film on the big screen before its streaming release. Netflix has also released the full trailer, offering the first extended look at Pitt’s return to Cliff Booth, the role that earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

What Is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth About?

The story moves forward to the summer of 1977, with Cliff living in a Hollywood that has changed considerably since his encounter with the Manson family eight years earlier. When he is not working as a bartender or projectionist, Cliff now operates as a fixer, dealing with problems for people across Hollywood using methods that do not always stay on the right side of the law.

His latest job begins when talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, contacts him on behalf of TV star Charlie Peters, played by Scott Caan. Cliff is soon drawn into a wider story involving Charlie’s wife Toni, played by Carla Gugino, football champion turned actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and the mysterious Verdusco brothers.

Where Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood played with Tarantino’s alternative version of 1969, this new chapter moves Cliff into a crime story involving murder, blackmail, theft and extortion across Los Angeles.

Brad Pitt reprises his role as Cliff Booth, with Elizabeth Debicki starring as talent agent Karen Crosby and Scott Caan as TV star Charlie Peters. Carla Gugino plays Toni Peters, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II appears as Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison. Peter Weller, Corey Fogelmanis, Karren Karagulian, Matt Groove and JB Tadena also feature.

Fincher directs from Tarantino’s screenplay, with Pitt and Ceán Chaffin producing.

For CultureCues, we are big fans of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and Cliff Booth was one of our favourite parts of the film, so we are very excited to see Brad Pitt return to the role. Having David Fincher directing from a Quentin Tarantino screenplay only makes this even bigger for us, especially with the story jumping forward eight years and finding Cliff working as a Hollywood fixer. The IMAX run is a bonus too, particularly for a Fincher film, and having it land on Netflix two days before Christmas has already secured its place on our festive watchlist. Cliff Booth may have moved on from stunt work, but trouble clearly has not moved on from him.
