Calvin’s is taking walk-ins again, with Prime Video releasing the first teaser for its new Barbershop sequel series and confirming when all eight episodes will arrive. The series will premiere worldwide on Prime Video on 10 February 2027, bringing the franchise back to Chicago with a new generation behind the chairs.

Jermaine Fowler leads the cast as Travis “Trav”, the grandson of Eddie, played by Cedric the Entertainer in the films. Trav returns to Calvin’s barbershop and finds himself trying to continue his grandfather’s legacy, although the first teaser suggests winning over the new group of barbers may not be quite so easy.

The shop itself remains very much the Calvin’s fans will remember, with plenty of arguments, jokes and opinions being thrown around alongside the haircuts. The series will once again use the barbershop as a meeting place for the wider community, keeping the spirit of the original films as the new characters take over.

Fowler is joined by Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman. The series will also feature guest appearances from Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker and Belmont Cameli.

Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original 2002 film, returns as writer, executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Max Searle. The series was filmed in Chicago and is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and MGM Television, with Kevin Hart among its executive producers.

The Barbershop franchise began with the 2002 film starring Ice Cube as Calvin, followed by Barbershop 2: Back in Business in 2004 and Barbershop: The Next Cut in 2016. Queen Latifah also led the 2005 spin-off Beauty Shop. The franchise previously made the move to television with a Showtime series in 2005, which ran for one season.

For CultureCues, we’re happy to see Calvin’s opening its doors again. The original films had such a fun mix of comedy and community, and introducing a new generation without losing that familiar barbershop feel is a brilliant way to bring the franchise back. The first teaser is only brief, but Jermaine Fowler already looks right at home behind the chair, and we’re looking forward to seeing what this new crew brings to the shop.

All eight episodes of Barbershop premiere on Prime Video on 10 February 2027.
