James Corden and Ruth Jones’ new Apple TV series The Choir has added three major names to its cast, with Hannah Waddingham, James McAvoy and Jim Broadbent all set to appear in guest roles. The eight-part comedy drama marks Corden and Jones’ first television project together since Gavin & Stacey: The Finale and is currently in production ahead of a global Apple TV release in 2027. Corden and Jones will also lead the series as estranged siblings Ben and Lisa.

What Is The Choir About?

The Choir follows Ben, played by James Corden, who has spent years living abroad after leaving behind his hometown and family. When an unfortunate event brings him back, he finds himself returning to a life he had worked hard to move away from and reconnecting with his estranged sister Lisa, played by Ruth Jones.

A struggling local choir becomes part of that reunion and gives the siblings an unexpected way back into each other’s lives. The series will follow their relationship alongside the wider community around them, with the story set across eight episodes. The project reunites Corden and Jones as both creators and performers following the huge success of Gavin & Stacey, with their most recent Christmas special drawing 19.1 million viewers within seven days of broadcast.

Who Is in The Choir Cast?

James Corden and Ruth Jones lead the series as Ben and Lisa, with a large supporting cast already confirmed around them. Tom Davis, Rosie Sheehy, Susan Brown, Jason Watkins and David Harewood will all appear, alongside Alexandria Riley, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Gary Lamont, Emily Lloyd-Saini, Farrah Abbassy, Tom Edden, Jo Foster, Evie Jones, Stephen Leask, Luiis Rouf and others.

Hannah Waddingham, James McAvoy and Jim Broadbent have now been confirmed for guest roles. Waddingham is best known for playing Rebecca Welton in Ted Lasso, while McAvoy’s credits include Atonement, Split, X-Men and His Dark Materials. Broadbent has appeared across a huge range of film and television roles, including Harry Potter, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Moulin Rouge! and Iris.

When Is The Choir Released on Apple TV?

The Choir is currently in production and is expected to premiere globally on Apple TV in 2027, although an exact release date has not yet been announced. The series will consist of eight episodes, with more details about the story, guest roles and launch date expected as production continues.

For CultureCues, seeing James Corden and Ruth Jones back together for a new series is exciting enough, but this cast is absolutely stacked. Hannah Waddingham, James McAvoy and Jim Broadbent is a seriously impressive guest line-up, especially on top of names like Tom Davis, Jason Watkins and David Harewood already being involved. The story of Ben returning home and reconnecting with Lisa through a struggling local choir also sounds like it should have a good mix of comedy and heart. After how loved Gavin & Stacey has been over the years, there was always going to be a lot of attention on what Corden and Jones did next, and with a cast like this, we are really looking forward to The Choir.

The Choir is currently in production and will premiere globally on Apple TV in 2027.
