The Beast in Me is officially coming back for Season 2, with Netflix confirming that Claire Danes will return as writer Aggie Wiggs for another chapter of the psychological thriller. The renewal is particularly notable after the first season was released as a limited series, with the story now set to continue under writer Howard Gordon and new co-showrunner Daniel Pearle.

What Do We Know About The Beast in Me Season 2?

Details about the new story are still being kept under wraps, but Danes is confirmed to reprise her role as Aggie. In Season 1, the writer became caught up in the life of billionaire neighbour Nile Jarvis, played by Matthew Rhys, setting off the mystery that drove the limited series.

Gordon said the creative team had always agreed that a second season would only happen if they found the right story, adding that they are now confident they have one. Season 2 will also mark the first project under his new exclusive creative partnership with Netflix, with Pearle joining him as co-showrunner.

Who Is Returning for The Beast in Me Season 2?

Claire Danes is the first cast member officially confirmed for Season 2. Netflix has not announced the wider returning or new cast yet, so it remains unclear which other characters from the first season could feature in the next story.

Danes will also serve as an executive producer alongside Gordon, Pearle, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Gabe Rotter, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster.

Why Was The Beast in Me Renewed?

The first season performed strongly for Netflix, debuting at No. 1 on its global Top 10 shows list and reaching the Top 10 in 88 countries. Netflix says the series recorded 43 million views across its first seven weeks.

It also had a major awards run, receiving 21 Emmy nominations. Danes was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series, while Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in the same category. Composers Sean Callery and Sara Barone also picked up an Emmy for the show’s score.

When Will The Beast in Me Season 2 Be Released?

Netflix has not announced a release date for Season 2, and there are currently no production dates confirmed. With the renewal only just announced, more details about the story, cast and filming are expected further down the line. The first season remains available to stream on Netflix in the meantime.

For CultureCues, this is a really pleasant surprise, especially as The Beast in Me originally arrived as a limited series. Season 1 was incredible, Claire Danes was brilliant as Aggie, and we are very happy Netflix has found a reason to bring the story back. The fact the team only wanted to continue if they found a story they felt was worth it makes us even more interested in what they have planned. We are definitely looking forward to seeing where Season 2 takes Aggie next as the beast wakes up again.
