Netflix has released the official trailer for its new six-part adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, giving us our first proper look at Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as Mr Darcy. Written by Dolly Alderton and directed by Heartstopper’s Euros Lyn, the new series will arrive on Netflix on 3 December and brings together a pretty impressive cast for another trip to Longbourn.
The trailer opens up the world of the Bennet family, with Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet, Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane, Hopey Parish as Mary, Hollie Avery as Kitty and Heartstopper star Rhea Norwood as Lydia. Mavor is also a familiar face to CultureCues readers, as we recently spoke to her about her role in Borges and Me.

The trailer opens with Emma Corrin’s Elizabeth in voiceover, telling Jane: “One day Jane, I shall be either a governess and a spinster or a wife and a mother. And then finally we may talk about something else.” It is a brilliant first line for this version of Elizabeth, setting up her wit and frustration with what is expected of her before we even meet the rest of the Bennet family.
Scottish actor Jack Lowden takes on Mr Darcy, following his brilliant work in Slow Horses. Daryl McCormack stars as Mr Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr Wickham and Jamie Demetriou as Mr Collins. Fiona Shaw also joins the cast as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

The trailer gives us plenty of Elizabeth and Mr Darcy, from their awkward first encounters to the glances and growing attraction that have kept readers and viewers invested in them for generations. We also get a good sense of life inside the Bennet household, with Olivia Colman looking perfectly at home as Mrs Bennet and delivering the obligatory “Mr Bennet!” before we have even reached episode one.

Alderton has written all six episodes and has said the adaptation will remain faithful to Austen’s novel while giving some of its characters and storylines more room to breathe across the series. “Pride and Prejudice is such a timeless story because of the emotions in the book; they are as pertinent now as they were in 1812,” Alderton told Netflix. “We go to that book to see our hearts reflected in it.”

For CultureCues, the question with Pride and Prejudice is always the same: do we really need another adaptation when there are already so many brilliant ones? And somehow, the answer is still yes. Colin Firth may forever be my Mr Darcy, but Jack Lowden has a very good chance of convincing me to make room for another. I love him in pretty much everything he does and he is such a terrific actor, so I am really looking forward to seeing him in this role. Emma Corrin looks brilliant as Elizabeth too, and with Olivia Colman alongside such a strong ensemble, this cast has me completely sold on spending six episodes with this version of the Bennets. I love Jane Austen, I love Pride and Prejudice, and if Netflix wants to give me another excuse to get annoyed at Mr Collins and fall for Darcy all over again, I am absolutely there.
Pride and Prejudice premieres on Netflix on 3 December 2026.
