Netflix has finally confirmed when its new Pride and Prejudice adaptation will arrive, with all six episodes premiering in December. Written by Dolly Alderton, the new series stars Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as Mr Darcy, alongside Olivia Colman, Rufus Sewell, Freya Mavor, Daryl McCormack, Jamie Demetriou and Louis Partridge. Netflix has also released a substantial new first look at 11 characters following an appearance by Alderton at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath.
When Is Pride and Prejudice Released on Netflix?
Pride and Prejudice premieres on Netflix on Thursday, 3 December. The adaptation consists of six episodes and will follow Jane Austen’s 1813 novel closely while also making some creative changes. Alderton has said she was particularly interested in Elizabeth’s conflict between practicality and romance, and how her feelings about marriage and love shift throughout the story.
The new first-look images introduce much of the Bennet family and several of the novel’s most famous suitors, giving us our best look yet at the world Netflix is building around the adaptation.

Who Is in the Pride and Prejudice Cast?
Emma Corrin leads as Elizabeth “Lizzy” Bennet, with Jack Lowden playing Fitzwilliam Darcy. Freya Mavor stars as Jane Bennet, while Olivia Colman and Rufus Sewell play Mrs and Mr Bennet.

Hollie Avery appears as Kitty Bennet, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet and Hopey Parish as Mary Bennet. Daryl McCormack plays Charles Bingley, Jamie Demetriou takes on Mr Collins and Louis Partridge stars as George Wickham.

The first-look images show Olivia Colman’s Mrs Bennet welcoming a caller, Rufus Sewell’s Mr Bennet surrounded by books in his study and Corrin’s Lizzy sharing a lighter moment with Mavor’s Jane. They also feature Jack Lowden as Darcy, Daryl McCormack as Bingley, Jamie Demetriou as Mr Collins and Louis Partridge as Wickham.

What Can We Expect From Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice?
Alderton has said the series will remain rooted in Austen’s original novel while exploring its characters through a contemporary lens. She described Lizzy as a woman still working out what she wants from love and marriage, pulled between her head and her heart.

The production has also placed emphasis on period detail. Costume designer Charlotte Walter has taken a practical approach to the Bennet sisters’ wardrobes, with the characters rewearing dresses and jackets rather than appearing in endless new outfits. Original textiles dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries have also been incorporated into some of the costumes.

For CultureCues, we were already looking forward to this one, and now 3 December is firmly in the diary. Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden feel like perfect casting for Lizzy and Darcy, while Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet is another excellent choice. The new images have made us even more excited to see the full ensemble together, and with Dolly Alderton adapting it, we cannot wait to return to Austen’s world. Our first impressions? Definitely not prejudiced.
Pride and Prejudice premieres on Netflix on Thursday, 3 December with all six episodes.
