A24 has released a new trailer for Marty Supreme, offering a closer look at Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a young table tennis talent chasing greatness.

Set in the 1950s and loosely inspired by real-life player Marty Reisman, the film follows Marty as he pushes for superstardom in a world that does not seem especially ready to take him seriously. The new trailer leans further into his single-minded ambition, with Chalamet’s Marty brushing off any thought of failure while the scale of the story stretches beyond sport into money, risk and spectacle.

Alongside Chalamet, the cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, Fran Drescher, Odessa A’zion and Penn Jillette, giving Josh Safdie’s latest film an ensemble that feels every bit as eccentric as the premise. Set to Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”, the trailer leans into the ambition, spectacle and showmanship surrounding Marty’s rise, making it clear this is about far more than table tennis alone.

For CultureCues, Marty Supreme already looks like one of the more intriguing releases of the season, with Chalamet at the centre of a film that seems to be chasing something bigger, stranger and more stylised than a standard sports drama.

Marty Supreme arrives in UK cinemas on 26 December.
