BookTok readers, consider this your official heads-up, the Knockemout era is officially happening. Prime Video has officially greenlit a television adaptation of Lucy Score’s bestselling romance novel Things We Never Got Over. The series is based on the first book in Score’s hugely popular Knockemout trilogy and comes after reports first emerged in 2025 that the project was in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder have written the pilot and will serve as showrunners and executive producers.

Welcome to Knockemout

The series follows Naomi Witt, a runaway bride whose attempt at a fresh start quickly goes off the rails when she arrives in a small Virginia town after receiving a call from her estranged twin sister. Things get considerably worse when her sister steals Naomi’s car, phone and purse before disappearing, leaving her stranded with a teenage niece she never knew existed and a very reluctant local ally.

That ally happens to be Knox Morgan, the town’s famously grumpy barber, who is about as far from Prince Charming as possible, although fans of the book may have a few thoughts on that description. According to the official logline, Naomi finds herself navigating family drama, small-town life and an enemies-to-lovers romance with her “knight in tattooed armour.”

Lucy Score’s Bestseller Heads to the Screen

Things We Never Got Over became a major BookTok success and helped establish Lucy Score as one of the biggest names in contemporary romance. Score will executive produce the adaptation alongside Gina Girolamo through Strega Stories. “I feel so lucky that this career has put me in the company of so many brilliant, generous storytellers,” Score said. “I’m thrilled that Gina, Eric and Nicole, as well as the incredibly talented writers, are bringing Things We Never Got Over to life. Readers can rest assured that the characters we all love so deeply on the page are in the best possible hands to be brought to life on screen.”

Charmelo and Snyder added: “Things We Never Got Over has everything we love in great television: an irresistible enemies-to-lovers romance, quirk, comedy and a community you never want to leave.”

Score also celebrated the news on Instagram, writing: “Pinch me. Actually don’t, I don’t want to wake up.” She added that her characters are getting “a whole Prime Video show” and thanked the readers who loved Knockemout enough to help make the adaptation happen, adding “This is yours too.”

Prime Video’s Romance Era Continues

The greenlight marks another major romance adaptation for Prime Video, which has found success with book-to-screen projects including The Summer I Turned Pretty, Off Campus and We Were Liars.

Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, described the series as having “heart, humour, found family, undeniable chemistry and characters you root for from the very first page.”

For CultureCues, this is one of those announcements that had us almost throwing the popcorn bowl across the room. Things We Never Got Over is already one of our favourite romance reads, so seeing Knockemout officially heading to Prime Video is very exciting. Things We Never Got Over has built a hugely passionate fanbase thanks to its small-town setting, witty banter and Knox-and-Naomi chemistry, and it already feels tailor-made for television. Prime Video has been building quite the collection of romance adaptations lately, and adding Knockemout to that lineup feels like a very smart move. If they can capture the humour, heart and community that readers fell in love with, this could easily become the platform’s next romance obsession.

Now we just need to know who is playing Knox… for research purposes.

A release date and casting details are expected to be announced at a later date.
