Prime Video has announced that The Love Hypothesis, the highly anticipated adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling romance novel, will premiere on 23 September. The film stars Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith and Tom Bateman as Adam Carlsen, bringing one of BookTok’s most beloved romance pairings to the screen. Alongside the release date announcement, Prime Video also unveiled a collection of first-look images from the adaptation. This announcement has been a long time coming for romance readers.
Based on Hazelwood’s New York Times bestselling novel, The Love Hypothesis follows brilliant Ph.D. candidate Olive, whose carefully planned academic future takes an unexpected turn when she impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen in an attempt to convince her best friend that she has moved on from a crush. What starts as a fake relationship with clear rules and boundaries soon becomes considerably more complicated as real feelings begin to enter the equation.
The film also stars Rachel Marsh as Olive’s best friend Ahn, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy and Jaboukie Young-White. Claire Scanlon directs the adaptation from a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild.
The release date announcement arrives alongside several first-look images, giving fans their clearest look yet at Reinhart and Bateman as Olive and Adam. For readers familiar with the novel, one of the biggest questions has always been whether the adaptation could capture the chemistry, humour and slow-burn tension that made the book such a phenomenon.
