The Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion sequel is officially in production, with Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino returning to one of the most beloved cult comedies of the 1990s. The 20th Century Studios film will stream as a Hulu Original in the US and will be released internationally on Disney+.
Kudrow and Sorvino confirmed the news on social media, sharing a photo from set and telling fans: “The reunion you’ve been waiting for! The Romy and Michele sequel is now in production.”
The original 1997 comedy followed Michele Weinberger and Romy White, two best friends from Los Angeles who head back to Tucson for their 10-year high school reunion. Determined to impress their former classmates, the pair pretend they invented Post-its, only for the lie to unravel in gloriously ridiculous fashion.

Several original cast members are also returning, including Scottish icon Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, Janeane Garofalo as Heather, Camryn Manheim as Toby and Julia Campbell as Christie Masters. The sequel will also add Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton and Nathan Lee Graham, although their roles are currently being kept under wraps.
Original costume designer Mona May is also back for the sequel, which feels especially important for a film where fashion was such a huge part of the characters’ identity. May said she is excited to help keep the “DNA” of Romy and Michele alive and described the characters as “forever fashionistas.”
The film is directed and produced by Tim Federle, with Robin Schiff, who created the characters and wrote the original film, returning to write the sequel. Laurence Mark, who produced the first film, is also back as a producer, with Kudrow, Sorvino, Schiff and Barry Kemp among the executive producers.
For CultureCues, this is exactly the kind of sequel news that makes us want to rewatch the original immediately. Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion has stayed so loved because it is completely ridiculous in the best way, but also genuinely warm about female friendship. Bringing Kudrow and Sorvino back already feels perfect, and Mona May’s return means the fashion and full 90s energy are in very safe hands. The reunion is happening, the outfits are coming, and we are absolutely ready to pretend we invented Post-its all over again.
