Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3, with the new chapter set to begin on 11 November 2026.
The trailer debuted during the series’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman and newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower. Benjamin Walker, who plays High King Gil-galad, moderated the panel.
The new footage reveals a darker season as Sauron’s plan to forge the One Ring moves forward. His attempt to control Middle-earth threatens every realm, forcing new and sometimes uneasy alliances to form as its people search for a way to stop him.
Season 3 takes place five years after the fall of Eregion, with Middle-earth now at war. Sauron’s armies have marched across the world, leaving Khazad-dûm and the elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell among the few remaining places standing between the Dark Lord and total victory. From his newly completed tower of Barad-dûr, Sauron works to create the power that could bring his final enemies to their knees: the One Ring.
Several new characters were also confirmed during the panel. Eddie Marsan will play Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV, while Andrew Richardson joins as Elendil’s younger son and Isildur’s brother, Anárion. Adam Young will appear as Marnûkh, a mysterious Orc who may not be what he seems.
They join the previously announced Jamie Campbell Bower as Galadriel’s long-lost husband, Celeborn, and Zubin Varla as Khamûl the Easterling. Simon Pegg has also joined the cast as the voice of the Balrog, which will speak for the first time during the new season.
Fans inside Hall H were shown a featurette exploring the creatures appearing in Season 3, including Fell-beasts, Mûmakil, Orcs and the returning Balrog. The panel was also interrupted by four armoured Nazgnagôl, the Second Age ring-servants of Sauron who later become the Nazgûl, or Ringwraiths.
The eight-episode season will follow a staggered release. The first four episodes arrive on 11 November, followed by Episodes 5 and 6 on 18 November. The final two episodes will be released on 25 November.
For CultureCues, this teaser is epic. We had to pause and replay it several times, with every watch revealing another gripping detail. The intense score always gets us, and paired with the scale of the new footage, it makes every moment feel even bigger. The cast was already incredible, but Jamie Campbell Bower, Simon Pegg and the other new additions make Season 3 even more exciting. Everything points towards the largest chapter yet, and we cannot wait to return to Middle-earth.
