Prime Video has set the premiere date for The Greatest, its upcoming Muhammad Ali limited series starring Jaalen Best as Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali. The series will premiere globally on Wednesday 4 November 2026, with the first-look teaser unveiled yesterday, Saturday 4 July, during a special presentation at ESSENCE Festival of Culture in New Orleans.
The presentation brought together creator, showrunner and executive producer Ben Watkins, star Jaalen Best, and cast members Dana Gourrier, Amin Joseph, Kai Parham and Michael Ealy, with ESPN and ABC News journalist Kelley Carter moderating as attendees got an exclusive first look at the teaser.
Executive produced by Lonnie Ali, the widow of Muhammad Ali, The Greatest is billed as the first authorised scripted series about his life. Prime Video describes the series as “an intimate exploration” of the boxing champion, humanitarian and global icon, with unprecedented access and a story that goes beyond the victories and defeats that made Ali a legend both in and out of the ring.
The eight-episode limited series will follow defining moments in Ali’s life and career, while also looking at the person behind the icon. With Best taking on one of the most famous figures in sporting history, The Greatest is already shaping up to be one of Prime Video’s major TV titles for the end of the year.
The series comes from Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions, Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment and Grace: A Storytelling Company. Watkins serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Elizabeth Raposo also executive producing for Outlier Society.
For CultureCues, this feels like a major one for the autumn TV calendar. Muhammad Ali’s story has never belonged only to boxing, and the first teaser already has us wanting more. Jaalen Best looks brilliant in the role, carrying that mix of charisma, presence and fight-night energy that makes this feel like one to watch.
