Perrie Edwards has announced that her debut solo album, Perrie, will be released on 26 September, marking the news with the arrival of her new single If He Wanted To He Would.

The self-titled record marks a big next step in her solo career after the singles Forget About Us and You Go Your Way, and looks set to pull from a wide mix of influences, including bright pop, disco, country, Motown and the rock’n’roll sounds she grew up around. Her latest single, co-written with Nina Nesbitt, brings a warm, live-band feel to a song about a relationship that was never giving enough back, while also giving fans another glimpse of what to expect from the album.

Perrie has also spoken about pressing pause on the album last year so she could move away from outside pressure and make something that felt more true to her, which gives this debut an added sense of purpose. There is already plenty of curiosity around the project too, especially with a RAYE collaboration reportedly on the tracklist.

For CultureCues, Perrie already feels like a confident and more personal introduction to her solo sound, with the album giving fans plenty to look forward to.

Perrie is released on 26 September.
