Office Romance is now streaming on Netflix, bringing Jennifer Lopez back to rom-com territory opposite Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein. The new film stars Lopez as Jackie Cruz, an airline CEO, and Goldstein as Daniel Blanchflower, her company’s lawyer. Their secret workplace romance soon causes problems for two workaholics who are much better at handling business than dealing with their own feelings.
Directed by Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again filmmaker Ol Parker, Office Romance was written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly. The film also stars Betty Gilpin, Edward James Olmos, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford, Amy Sedaris, Jodie Whittaker, Michelle Hurd, Rick Hoffman and Will Sasso.
Lopez has described the film as “a very classic romantic comedy” with “unexpected jokes”, adding that it is “a little different” from some of the sweeter rom-coms she has made before. Goldstein has also spoken about wanting to make an old-school romantic comedy with harder jokes, while calling Lopez the obvious choice thanks to her “industrial levels of charm.”

The film also reunites Lopez with Edward James Olmos, who played her father in Selena and once again plays her onscreen dad here. Most of the film was shot in New Jersey, with production also heading to the Dominican Republic for its tropical work trip storyline.
For CultureCues, Office Romance sounds like exactly the kind of summer Netflix rom-com we can happily make room for. Jennifer Lopez back in rom-com mode is already enough to get our attention, but pairing her with Brett Goldstein gives this one a fun twist, especially when the whole thing sounds one bad decision away from an HR investigation. We’ll be watching from the sofa, far away from any office policies.
