Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh have teamed up for Mayday, a new Cold War action comedy that is streaming globally on Apple TV from today, Friday, 4 September. The film puts the pair on opposite sides of the Cold War before forcing them into an unlikely partnership after a mission goes badly wrong.

Reynolds stars as Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, a US Navy pilot sent on a top-secret mission into Russian territory. When the operation falls apart and Troy becomes stranded behind enemy lines, he is discovered by Nikolai Ustinov, a former KGB agent played by Branagh. Rather than immediately becoming enemies, the two find themselves working together as Troy tries to make it home.

Apple describes Mayday as a genre-bending buddy comedy that plays with the conventions of the traditional spy thriller. Troy expects the worst when Nikolai discovers him, but the former KGB agent’s fascination with American culture gives their encounter an unexpected direction. The pair begin to form a bond as the situation around them becomes more dangerous, with the film mixing Cold War espionage, action and comedy.

Mayday has a runtime of approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, making it just under two hours long. The film is available to stream on Apple TV now following its global release on 4 September.
