Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña are heading to the Amalfi Coast for Positano, a new Netflix romantic caper about two rival thieves caught up in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. Directed by Academy Award winner Daniel Roher, the film will bring the two Oscar-winning stars together against the coastal setting of Positano for a heist worth more than money. Netflix has not yet announced a release date.
McConaughey will play a charming jewel thief who gives up the good life to help a mysterious woman, played by Saldaña, as they plan a major score. Their uneasy partnership places them on opposite sides of the same game, with romance complicating an already risky situation.
Toni Collette has also joined the cast, alongside Karren Karagulian, Salvatore Esposito, Michele Savoia and Lorenzo de Moor. Further details about their characters have not yet been revealed.
Roher is best known for directing the Academy Award-winning documentary Navalny. He recently made his narrative feature debut with Tuner, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival. The screenplay for Positano was written by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, who will also serve as executive producers. Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan are producing for Working Title alongside Derrin Schlesinger, with Amelia Granger and Katherine Pomfret also executive producing. The film continues Netflix’s relationship with Working Title, following projects including Matilda the Musical, The Swimmers and Goodbye June.
