Happy 828 Day, Manifest fans, because Netflix has officially resurrected the universe once again. Exactly five years after the streamer announced it was saving Manifest following its NBC cancellation, Netflix has confirmed a brand-new spin-off, Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, with original creator Jeff Rake returning for another supernatural puzzle.
The new sci-fi drama will introduce a completely new cast and story set within the world of Manifest, which originally followed the passengers of Montego Air Flight 828 after they landed in New York to discover that more than five years had passed for everyone else. Netflix appropriately announced Arrivals at 8:28am PT on 28 August, continuing a tradition that has become closely tied to the series and its fans.
What Is Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery About?
Arrivals begins with another mysterious plane, although this time the circumstances are very different. Netflix’s official synopsis reads: “When a mysterious plane crash-lands in Denver, the passengers emerge with no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they’re here. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent team up with the new arrivals in an attempt to stop a humanity-ending catastrophe, discovering along the way that they are all part of the very puzzle they’re trying to solve.”
The spin-off appears to keep the big mystery and supernatural elements that defined Manifest without repeating the story of Flight 828. It is still unclear how Arrivals will connect to the original characters or mythology, or whether any familiar faces could appear, but Netflix says the series is being designed for both longtime Manifest fans and viewers new to the franchise.

Is the Original Manifest Creator Returning?
Jeff Rake returns as co-creator, executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, both former Manifest co-executive producers. Warner Bros. Television also returns as the studio.
Rake said he never expected the original idea for Manifest to grow into what it eventually became. “When the idea for Manifest first crash-landed in my head, I never imagined where it would lead. What started as a wild concept became something much bigger, a story that connected with millions of people around the globe.” Reflecting on the new series, he added: “But the world of Manifest has more stories to tell. To now bring fans a brand-new mystery from that world is quite simply beyond my wildest dreams.”
Rake described Easley and Putney as trusted colleagues whose contribution to Manifest “cannot be overstated”, adding that the team wants Arrivals to be “bold, surprising, deeply human” and filled with the kind of big ideas that keep audiences talking after each episode.
How Did Manifest Make Its Comeback?
Manifest originally aired on NBC before being cancelled after three seasons in 2021. The show then found a huge new audience after its earlier seasons arrived on Netflix, prompting a major fan campaign and ultimately convincing the streamer to bring it back for a fourth and final season.
Netflix announced the revival on 28 August 2021 at exactly 8:28am PT, a nod to Flight 828, and has used 828 Day for major Manifest news ever since. Season 4’s premiere date and trailer followed a year later, making Arrivals another fitting 828 Day announcement.
The franchise has continued to perform strongly on Netflix long after its finale. Since the streamer began publishing its wider viewing data in 2023, the four seasons of Manifest have accumulated more than 130 million views combined. Season 4 also spent nine weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for English-language television and reached number one in more than 90 countries.
When Will Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery Be Released?
Netflix has not announced a release date or cast for Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery. Work is already underway, with a writers’ room opened and directors being considered before Netflix officially confirmed the series. Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Scripted Series for the US and Canada, said the streamer was “thrilled to expand the Manifest universe with Arrivals”, adding that bringing back Rake, Easley and Putney would provide the creative continuity needed to honour the original series while introducing something new.
At CultureCues, we are very happy with this news. We watched Manifest from the beginning, were gutted when it was cancelled, and were so glad when Netflix brought it back to finish the story properly. Arrivals already sounds like an interesting new direction, and we will be very intrigued to see whether it connects back to the original characters or mythology in any way. Either way, we are more than ready to return to the Manifest universe. Manifesters, it looks like it is time to keep the faith once again.
