Enjoying Little House On The Prairie? Season 2 Is Already Confirmed! Netflix’s new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie is now streaming, and viewers already making their way through Season 1 have some good news: a second season is officially on the way.
Netflix confirmed the renewal before the first season premiered on 9 July, giving the show a major vote of confidence. Based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, the series follows the Ingalls family as they leave their home behind and begin building a new life together on the American frontier.
Alice Halsey stars as Laura Ingalls, with Skywalker Hughes playing her older sister Mary. Luke Bracey appears as Charles “Pa” Ingalls, while Crosby Fitzgerald plays Caroline “Ma” Ingalls.
Netflix describes the series as: Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine said the cast and crew put their hearts into the first season and that the team is excited to continue the story. Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, Jinny Howe, said Season 1 had created a strong foundation for the show to continue for years to come. Season 2 will take the Ingalls family towards Walnut Grove and introduce one of the best-known characters from Wilder’s books.
Willa Dunn will join Season 2 as Nellie Oleson, Laura’s most formidable rival. Nellie is clever, confident and determined to make Laura’s life difficult, although there is also a more vulnerable side beneath her spoiled and confrontational exterior. Dunn is known for roles in Poker Face, Coup! and Only Murders in the Building.
Charlotte Sullivan joins as Margaret Oleson, Nellie’s mother, who is described as charming, quick-witted and fiercely devoted to her daughter. Rachelle Lefevre will play Eva Beadle, the local schoolteacher who quickly becomes a favourite of both Laura and Mary. Open-minded, adventurous and generous, she brings a wider view of the world to Walnut Grove.
The new adaptation is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content, with Sonnenshine, Joy Gorman Wettels and Trip Friendly serving as executive producers. Friendly’s father, Ed Friendly, produced the television films and long-running NBC series that aired between 1974 and 1984.
