Apple TV has released the official trailer for Last Seen, offering a first look at the new drama starring Patrick Brammall and Maxine Peake. The six-part series premieres globally on Wednesday, 9 September 2026 with two episodes, before switching to weekly releases through to the October finale.
Based on Ryan David Jahn’s novel The Dispatcher, the Australian thriller follows Ian Ridley, a former police detective whose daughter Maggie disappeared without a trace 11 years earlier. Now working as a police dispatcher, Ian’s life is turned upside down again when he answers a distress call from a teenage girl and becomes convinced the voice on the other end belongs to Maggie.
When Is Last Seen Released on Apple TV?
Last Seen premieres on Apple TV on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, with the first two episodes. The remaining four episodes will then follow every Wednesday, taking the series through to its finale on 7 October. As the release is global, UK viewers will be able to start watching on the same day through Apple TV.

What Is Last Seen About?
The trailer centres on the phone call that pulls Ian back into the mystery surrounding his daughter. After Maggie vanished 11 years earlier, he never accepted that she was gone for good, and hearing a teenage girl on the emergency line gives him the first reason in years to believe he may have been right. From there, Ian becomes determined to find the caller and uncover what happened, even as the people around him question whether the voice really could belong to Maggie. The series is set and filmed entirely in Victoria, Australia, with Kris Mrksa adapting Jahn’s novel for television and Christian Schwochow directing.

Who Is in the Last Seen Cast?
Patrick Brammall leads the series as Ian Ridley, with Maxine Peake, Brendan Cowell, Daniel Henshall, Zahra Newman, Jessica Wren, Tobias Muhafidin and newcomer Chloe Jean Lourdes also starring. Brammall will already be familiar to many viewers from Colin from Accounts and recently appeared in The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Peake recently starring in Say Nothing and Cowell appearing in Dune: Prophecy.
Is Last Seen Based on a Book?
Yes. Last Seen is adapted from Ryan David Jahn’s thriller novel The Dispatcher, with the television series previously announced under the same title before being renamed. The adaptation moves the story to Australia, with Ian Ridley replacing the novel’s Ian Hunt.
For CultureCues, Last Seen was already on our watchlist, and the trailer has made us want to see it even more. The setup around Maggie’s disappearance is heartbreaking, and the trailer builds plenty of tension from the start. Patrick Brammall already looks excellent in the role, with Maxine Peake another brilliant addition to the cast. We cannot wait to find out whether the voice really is Maggie, what happened to her all those years ago and where the mystery leads. Two episodes on the first day should be enough to pull us straight in before the not-so-patient weekly wait begins. Consider us invested.
