Sony Pictures has released the first public trailer for Jumanji: Open World, reuniting Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan for one final game. The first footage was previously shown privately at CinemaCon in April, where the film’s title and final-chapter status were confirmed.
The new adventure picks up after the ending of Jumanji: The Next Level, which saw the game begin breaking into the real world. The trailer opens with Spencer, Bethany, Martha and Fridge driving together when giraffes appear on the road, before the group returns to find the restaurant in complete chaos. Spencer discovers that Dr Smolder Bravestone, Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar, Professor Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Oberon and Ruby Roundhouse have escaped from the game. However, the avatars are trapped in demo mode.
The group must find a way to return the characters to Jumanji and restore the boundary between the game and reality. Their latest mission brings more body-swapping complications as the avatars begin connecting with different people from Spencer’s real life. The trailer also shows Jumanji’s wildlife taking over the city, with a rhino tearing through a building before the group is pulled back into the jungle.
Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris and Rhys Darby also return. Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes join the ensemble as new additions to the franchise.
Jake Kasdan returns to direct after leading Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level. He co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, while Matt Tolmach, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Kasdan serve as producers.
Johnson previously described Open World as the franchise’s “big finale” and confirmed that the film will honour Robin Williams, who starred in the original 1995 film. One half of the original Jumanji dice will appear as an Easter egg throughout the new adventure.

We have always enjoyed this franchise, and the cast once again looks completely at home with the action and comedy. The new body-swapping combinations already seem hilarious, while the promise of one final adventure makes this feel even more special. We cannot wait to get back in the game.
