Sony Pictures has released the final trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further, opening another red door before the supernatural horror franchise returns to UK cinemas later this month, on 21 August. The footage introduces a new family, brings Lin Shaye back as Elise Rainier and reveals how the horrors of The Further could finally escape into the real world. The new film moves away from the Lambert family after Insidious: The Red Door concluded their story in 2023. However, Elise’s return and the continued importance of The Further ensure that it remains firmly connected to the earlier films.
Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in her childhood home. Gemma discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the centre of the Insidious films, but her ability comes with a dangerous difference: she can bring whatever lives there back with her.
The final trailer quickly shows why the film’s marketing declares that “the franchise that haunted a generation gets flipped on its head.” Rather than sending its characters deeper into The Further, the new story allows its demons to cross over, turning the real world into their latest playground.
The trailer is packed with jump scares as Gemma begins seeing figures inside her home and realises that something has followed her back. Doors open by themselves, faces emerge from the darkness and a disturbing figure repeatedly appears behind her, leaving Gemma increasingly unsure where The Further ends and her own world begins. Elise returns from the other side to help Gemma understand her power and the danger it has created. Lin Shaye has appeared throughout the franchise despite Elise’s death in the original film, continuing to guide those who become trapped inside The Further. Her warning at the end of the trailer raises the stakes considerably: “When the dead rise, it will be the end of the living.”
The film also stars Brandon Perea (Nope), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Sam Spruell (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Laura Gordon (Late Night with the Devil) and Island Austin. Details about most of their characters remain under wraps, keeping the focus on Gemma, her daughter and the supernatural threat pursuing them.

Lin Shaye’s return makes the new chapter feel connected to everything that came before, but her final warning makes it clear that the danger is now much bigger than one haunted family. The Further has never felt closer.
