We are heading back to Barry’s Bay for another summer. Prime Video has renewed Every Year After for a second season following the romantic drama’s debut earlier in June. Showrunner Amy B Harris shared the news during Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest on 27 June, confirming that the series will continue exploring Carley Fortune’s bestselling world.
The first season followed Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) as she returned to Barry’s Bay and faced the memories and feelings she thought she had left behind. Moving between past and present, the series explored her relationship with brothers Sam (Matt Cornett) and Charlie Florek (Michael Bradway) and the summer romance that continued to shape her life.
Season 2 will draw from Fortune’s companion novel One Golden Summer, with Sam’s brother Charlie taking centre stage alongside Alice, the photographer connected to his story. The Season 1 finale had already set this up when Charlie discovered an old photograph of himself, Sam and Percy before suffering a heart attack.
Readers of One Golden Summer will know that Alice took the photograph years earlier, connecting her directly to Charlie and his past in Barry’s Bay. Harris previously explained that the image reminded him of “the world he loved and has lost”, setting up another summer by the lake.
Full casting details for Season 2 have not yet been announced, including who will play Alice, although Bradway’s storyline is expected to become central to the new episodes.
For CultureCues, the renewal is very welcome news. The first season left plenty unresolved in Barry’s Bay, and using One Golden Summer gives the series a natural way to continue without repeating Percy and Sam’s romance. Charlie’s cliffhanger made it clear that another story was already waiting beneath the surface, and we are more than ready for another Barry’s Bay summer.
Every Year After Season 2 will stream on Prime Video. A release date has not yet been announced.
