Netflix has released a new collection of first-look photos from East of Eden, giving us another look at Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames ahead of the series arriving this autumn. Zoe Kazan’s seven-part adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel will premiere on Netflix on 1 October 2026, with Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist and Ciarán Hinds among its impressive cast.
The new images give us a closer look at Pugh’s Cathy, the Trask and Hamilton families and the series’ period setting. Netflix previously released the first teaser for the series in May, so these photos are our latest look at the adaptation ahead of its October arrival.

When Is East of Eden Released on Netflix?
East of Eden begins streaming globally on Netflix on Thursday, 1 October 2026. The limited series consists of seven episodes. The project was first announced several years ago, with Florence Pugh starring as Cathy Ames as well as serving as an executive producer.
What Is Netflix’s East of Eden About?
The series adapts John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel and places renewed focus on Cathy Ames, whose life becomes closely connected to generations of the Trask family, particularly brothers Adam and Charles.

The story explores the choices between good and evil and the ways family history continues to shape later generations. Kazan has said she wanted Cathy to be explored as a person rather than simply treated as an archetypal villain, with the series drawing its characterisation from Steinbeck’s original novel.
Who Is in the East of Eden Cast?
Florence Pugh leads East of Eden as Cathy Ames, with Christopher Abbott playing Adam Trask and Mike Faist as Charles Trask. The cast also includes Hoon Lee as Lee, Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye and Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton. Joseph Zada plays Cal Trask, with Joe Anders as Aron Trask.

Who Is Behind Netflix’s East of Eden?
Zoe Kazan wrote and executive produced all seven episodes and serves as co-showrunner alongside Jeb Stuart. Garth Davis directs the first four episodes, with Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directing the final three.
There is also a particularly interesting connection between Kazan and the story. Her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the 1955 film adaptation of East of Eden, starring James Dean. This version gives Kazan considerably more time to explore Steinbeck’s wider family saga across seven episodes.
Is There a Trailer for East of Eden?
Yes. Netflix released the first teaser for East of Eden in May, giving audiences their first look at Pugh as Cathy months before the latest photos arrived. The teaser introduces Cathy through a dark reflection on her childhood and immediately establishes her as the character at the centre of this version of Steinbeck’s story.
For CultureCues, Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames was an interesting choice from the start. Cathy has so often been presented as one of literature’s great villains, so seeing someone we love as much as Pugh take her on initially had us thinking, oh… but this adaptation is clearly looking to explore a different side of the character, and that makes us even more curious. Pugh is an incredible actor, and Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist and Ciarán Hinds make this a seriously impressive cast. The new images look gorgeous too, and with seven episodes to explore Steinbeck’s huge family story, we are very interested to see what Zoe Kazan does with it.
