Camp Rock really would not be Camp Rock without Mitchie Torres, and now we finally have the news we have been hoping for: Demi Lovato is officially returning in Camp Rock 3! After months of questions over whether Lovato would actually appear in the third film, Disney has confirmed that the singer and actor will make a surprise cameo as Mitchie Torres, alongside already serving as an executive producer. Even better, we now have our first look at Mitchie back in the world of Camp Rock, nearly two decades after Lovato first played the character in the 2008 Disney Channel movie.
Honestly, squeeee. We already knew the Jonas Brothers were returning as Shane, Nate and Jason Gray, with Maria Canals-Barrera also back as Mitchie’s mum Connie, who is now the director of Camp Rock, but Mitchie was the missing piece. Seeing Demi back in character immediately makes this feel even more like a proper return to the franchise rather than a completely new story using the Camp Rock name.
Disney is keeping the details of Mitchie’s appearance under wraps, so we do not yet know exactly what brings her back to camp or, importantly, whether she will cross paths with Shane again. Considering how central Mitchie and Shane were to the original films, we are absolutely allowing ourselves to hope there might be at least a little something there for longtime fans.
Camp Rock 3 sees Connect 3 returning to the camp after unexpectedly losing the opening act for their reunion tour. Their solution is to find the next big thing at Camp Rock, with a new group of campers competing for the chance to join them on tour as friendships, romances and rivalries develop around the competition.
The new generation includes Liamani Segura as Sage, Malachi Barton as Fletch, Lumi Pollack as Rosie, Hudson Stone as Desi, Casey Trotter as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as Callie and Ava Jean as Madison, with Sherry Cola also joining as Lark. Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas return as Connect 3 alongside Lovato and Canals-Barrera.
It has been 18 years since Camp Rock first arrived in 2008 and 16 since Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, but the love for these films clearly has not disappeared. Disney says the first two movies have now been watched for more than 535 million hours across linear television and streaming, which probably explains why so many of us are still capable of hearing “This Is Me” and immediately being transported back to 2008.
For CultureCues, we were already ridiculously excited to head back to Camp Rock, but getting Mitchie Torres back too has made it even better. Demi may only be appearing in a cameo, but after months of wondering whether Mitchie would be part of the reunion at all, we are just happy she is there. Now we need to know what Mitchie has been doing all these years… and whether Shane Gray might be involved.
Camp Rock 3 premieres on Disney Channel in the US on 13 August before streaming on Disney+ in the UK from 14 August 2026.
