Sky has released the first teaser and first-look images for Crystal Lake, the new A24 series expanding the Friday the 13th universe. The eight-part prequel stars Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees and will arrive exclusively on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland this October.
Set before the events of the original films, Crystal Lake follows Pam almost a year after her young son Jason drowned in the town lake. Still struggling with her grief, she is forced to confront her past when two strangers arrive at her door and begin asking questions. Their visit sets off a disturbing chain of events across the town, leaving its residents questioning who Pam really is and what she may be hiding.
The teaser offers the first glimpse of Cardellini in the role, while introducing a version of Crystal Lake before it became one of horror’s most infamous locations. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom also star in the series.
Crystal Lake is created, written and executive produced by Brad Caleb Kane, whose previous credits include It: Welcome to Derry and Warrior. The series is produced by A24.
Kane said the show was made by people who grew up with the franchise and wanted to recreate the feeling of watching the original films with an audience. “People should expect a ride, incredible performances, and a show that exists within the canon and with the DNA of the original franchise.” He added that Crystal Lake was made with love and respect for both the films and the fans who have followed them for decades.
The series will explore Pam’s story before Jason became the masked killer associated with the franchise. By focusing on her grief and the mystery surrounding her past, the prequel appears set to take a more psychological approach while still keeping its connection to the original films.
Executive producers include Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox and Roy Lee.
For CultureCues, this is going straight onto our watch list. We love, love, love Linda Cardellini, and she already looks like a great lead for the series. Placing Pam Voorhees at the centre is a smart move, giving Crystal Lake the chance to explore a part of the story the films only briefly touched on. The teaser looks tense, unsettling and packed with mystery. So yes, we will definitely be tuning in, most likely from behind a cushion.
Crystal Lake will be available exclusively on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland in October 2026.
