Prime Video has released the first teaser for Mike Flanagan’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, confirming that all eight episodes will arrive on 7 October 2026.
The footage debuted ahead of the San Diego Comic-Con panel, giving the first look at Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her protective mother, Margaret. Prime Video described the teaser as hinting at “new dimensions still to come” as the story receives a contemporary update.
Flanagan announced the premiere date at the end of the panel, alongside new key art referencing the infamous blood-covered prom scene. Unlike previous film versions, the eight-part series will have more time to explore Carrie’s life and the smaller choices that lead towards its devastating final night.
Howell was selected for the title role following an extensive search that saw more than 1,000 actors audition. Her version of Carrie has spent most of her life hidden inside her family home, but the sudden death of her father forces her into the unforgiving world of public high school.
There, Carrie becomes the target of a viral bullying scandal and the cruelty of the social-media age, while mysterious telekinetic powers begin to emerge alongside her adolescence. The series will explore whether those experiences are creating a hero, a monster or something far more complicated.
The cast also includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy and Thalia Dudek as Emaline. Amber Midthunder will play Miss Desjardin, while Matthew Lillard appears as Principal Grayle.
Flanagan serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer, as well as directing four of the eight episodes. Stephen King is also an executive producer on the Amazon MGM Studios production.
Published in 1974, Carrie was King’s debut novel and became one of his most enduring stories. Brian De Palma’s acclaimed 1976 adaptation starred Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, with both actors receiving Academy Award nominations. The new Prime Video production marks the first time the novel has been adapted as a television series. You watch the first official teaser below.
