Bridgerton season five is officially coming in 2027, with Netflix confirming that the next chapter is now in production outside London. Members of the Ton, our patience has finally been rewarded.
The upcoming eight-episode season will be led by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza as Lady Francesca Stirling and Michaela Stirling, marking Bridgerton’s first same-gender central love story. Netflix confirmed the news during its upfront presentation, where chief content officer Bela Bajaria announced the 2027 window.
The new season picks up two years after the death of Lord John Stirling, played by Victor Alli. Francesca, now widowed, decides to re-enter the marriage mart for practical reasons, but Michaela’s return to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate soon complicates those carefully made plans.
Inspired by Julia Quinn’s novel When He Was Wicked, the season will explore grief, desire and the possibility of finding love again after loss. Showrunner Jess Brownell has said the season will be about “queer joy” rather than queer trauma, with the romance between Francesca and Michaela bringing what she described as “big-time yearning” to the Ton. The new Lady Whistledown may need extra ink for this one.

New cast members joining season five include Tega Alexander as Christopher Anderson, Jacqueline Boatswain as Helen Stirling and Gemma Knight Jones as Lady Elizabeth Ashworth.
Netflix has also confirmed that Bridgerton season six is officially on the way, with many fans already hoping it will finally be Eloise’s turn. After the book order was changed, viewers have been patiently waiting to see whether her story with Sir Phillip Crane will make it to screen next.
The quicker turnaround is also notable. Since launching in December 2020, Bridgerton has usually kept fans waiting around two years between seasons, taking us through Daphne and Simon, Anthony and Kate, Colin and Penelope, and Benedict and Sophie at a very measured pace. Season five is set to arrive the year after season four, which, for a series built on longing, is practically sprinting.
For CultureCues, Francesca’s season already feels like one of Bridgerton’s most meaningful shifts yet. Hannah Dodd has brought a quiet emotional depth to Francesca, and pairing her story with Michaela opens the door for a romance that feels fresh for the show while still promising all the yearning, candlelit glances and dramatic orchestral covers the Ton could possibly require.
After seasons of secret letters, scandal sheets and ballroom stares, Bridgerton giving Francesca and Michaela a love story centred on queer joy feels like something genuinely worth swooning over.
