Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2099, with the highly anticipated limited series set to premiere globally on 25 November 2026.
The announcement came during the series’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer were joined by showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. All eight episodes will arrive together on Prime Video.
Set 50 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the new series returns to a Los Angeles that has been rebuilt by forces beyond humanity. The official synopsis reads: “Cora, a fugitive in a final bid to stop running, takes on one last identity: a Blade Runner. Forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant days from dying, she hunts down a runaway hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city.”
The first footage offers an early look at this new chapter of the franchise, with Yeoh and Schafer leading a story that appears to continue the bleak atmosphere, questions of identity and uneasy relationship between humans and Replicants that have defined the Blade Runner universe.
The cast also includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi.
Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer, with original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott also among the executive producers. Jonathan van Tulleken, known for Shōgun, directed the opening two episodes and also serves as an executive producer.
The franchise began with Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner, starring Harrison Ford as a detective hunting rogue Replicants in a dystopian Los Angeles. Villeneuve continued the story with Blade Runner 2049 in 2017, led by Ryan Gosling and Ford, while Blade Runner 2099 marks its first major live-action expansion for television.
For CultureCues, this first look already looks epic. Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh are incredible casting for the next chapter, while the brutal fight scene and flashes of blood suggest the series will not hold back when the action begins. With eight episodes to explore its new characters and future Los Angeles, Blade Runner 2099 has plenty of room to build something ambitious, and we cannot wait to see more.
