Netflix has released the official trailer for Bad Day, a new action comedy starring Cameron Diaz as a single mother whose attempt to keep one simple promise to her daughter turns into the worst day of her life. Directed by Jake Szymanski, the film sees Diaz dealing with everything from a towed car to an accidental bank robbery, all while desperately trying to make it to her daughter’s football match on time. The comedy will arrive on Netflix on Friday 11 December 2026.

Diaz plays Joy, a busy single mum who promises her daughter Katie (Emma Pearson) that she won’t miss her upcoming football match. It sounds simple enough, but when Joy’s car gets towed and a trip to the bank goes horribly wrong, her already stressful day begins to spiral out of control.

The newly released trailer gives us a glimpse of just how badly things go for Joy, including an unfortunate incident involving a television and a fish tank during her father’s dialysis appointment. Before long, she also finds herself accused of robbing a bank over just $30, leaving her trying to avoid the police as she races to keep her promise to Katie.

Who Stars Alongside Cameron Diaz in Bad Day?

Joining Diaz is Modern Family star Ed O’Neill as Joy’s father, with Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black, The Color Purple) appearing as one of the detectives pursuing her.

The film is directed by Jake Szymanski, known for his work on Jury Duty and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, with a screenplay written by Laura Solon, whose previous credits include Office Christmas Party and Let It Snow. Bad Day also reunites Diaz with producer Beau Bauman following their previous Netflix collaboration, Back in Action, which marked the actress’s return to film after a lengthy break from acting.
