The first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has finally arrived, bringing together the Avengers, Wakanda, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men for what may be Marvel’s biggest crossover yet. Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is coming, and almost every corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe appears ready to stand against him.
The trailer opens on the damaged sign for Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, immediately confirming the scale of the worlds now colliding. Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier looks out towards an approaching threat as a warning declares: “Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.”
From there, the footage moves quickly between heroes from different universes. Members of the X-Men appear alongside the Fantastic Four, while Wakanda, the New Avengers and several familiar MCU faces prepare for a battle that already looks capable of matching the scale of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor provides much of the trailer’s emotional voiceover, reflecting on the warriors he has fought beside and lost. Addressing the assembled heroes, he warns that everything previously sacrificed will mean nothing unless they stand together.
He tells those who return to the fight that they will do so as “brothers and sisters”.
The footage includes Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as Captain America, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes and Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi. Tom Hiddleston returns as Loki, with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Lewis Pullman’s Bob among the heroes involved.
The Fantastic Four are represented by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. The group officially entered the MCU in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and will now join forces with heroes from Earth-616 as the threat of Doctor Doom brings their worlds together.
Several stars from the earlier X-Men films are also back, including Stewart, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops and Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Channing Tatum returns as Gambit following his long-awaited appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, adding another familiar face to an already enormous cast.
The official premise centres on heroes from three different realities confronting a catastrophic threat capable of destroying everything they know. The Avengers, Wakandans and New Avengers represent the main MCU, while the Fantastic Four and returning X-Men arrive from separate universes.
At the centre of that threat is Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom. The trailer offers the first proper look at the former Iron Man star in action as Marvel’s new central villain, with Doom seemingly responsible for forcing these different teams together. His arrival marks a major change for Downey Jr., who spent more than a decade playing Tony Stark before leaving the MCU following Avengers: Endgame.
Steve Rogers Returns and Wields Mjolnir Again
The trailer saves its biggest moment for the end. After Thor warns the assembled heroes about what lies ahead, a familiar voice calls out: “Hey, pal.” Thor turns to find Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers standing behind him and responds: “It’s not possible.”
Steve then reaches out his hand. Mjolnir leaves Thor’s grasp and flies directly towards him, confirming that Captain America remains worthy of wielding the hammer. It is a direct callback to one of the biggest crowd-pleasing moments in Avengers: Endgame, when Steve first lifted Mjolnir during the final battle against Thanos.
Evans’ return had previously been confirmed through an earlier teaser, but seeing Steve reunited with Thor and catching Mjolnir makes his role in Doomsday look much more significant than a brief appearance. Marvel has not yet explained how this version of Steve returns after his story appeared to conclude at the end of Endgame.
The moment also raises questions about whether this is the original Steve Rogers, a version drawn from another reality or part of whatever multiversal disruption Doctor Doom has caused. Either way, his arrival appears designed to bring the Avengers back together at the moment they need him most.
Who Stars in Avengers: Doomsday?
The confirmed ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Simu Liu, Tom Hiddleston, Lewis Pullman and Chris Evans.
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach return as the Fantastic Four, while Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer and James Marsden represent the returning X-Men. Additional cast members include Channing Tatum, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Wyatt Russell and Danny Ramirez.
Robert Downey Jr. leads the opposing side as Doctor Doom. Marvel first announced his casting at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, alongside the return of directors Anthony and Joe Russo.
The Russo brothers previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Stephen McFeely, who worked on all four films, returns as screenwriter. Disney lists the film as an action-adventure, science-fiction and superhero release.
When Is Avengers: Doomsday Released?
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in UK cinemas on 18 December 2026. The film will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on 17 December 2027, with both directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

Seeing the Fantastic Four, Wakanda and the X-Men standing alongside familiar MCU heroes is already huge. We knew Chris Evans was returning, but that did not stop us screaming a little when Steve appeared and Mjolnir flew straight into his hand. It is a brilliant callback to one of Endgame’s greatest moments and has us even more excited to see how his return fits into Doomsday.
